The tip of the top spike eventually slides off the sphere and the entire thing slides fully into view, revealing a abstract "F" as "FUNAI" slides up below with a similar spike on the "F". The sphere then turns sky blue, with the entire letter (bar the tip of the exposed spike) turning white. The end result looks just like the one seen at the end of commercials at the time.

Background

Funai Entertainment (HRS Funai) was the home video division of Funai Corporation, founded in the mid 1980s.

1st Logo (Mid 1980s?-1990s)

Visuals: On a zooming dark purple space background, a bright flare occurs and fades away, whilst upwards, are the spinning purple words "FUNAI" in it's corporate font zoom from the distance, with a magenta trail accompanying it. As it settles on-screen, the spinning stops in letter order, facing the screen. Later on, a small bright flare occurs from the top-right corner, which then moves in a curvy way to the top-left vertex of the "F", causing a flash, which turns the words in silver.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A loud whoosh, then a sparkling chime. Later on, a warbling synth tune which rises pitch with a descending synth note, three drums and a three-note fanfare.

Availability: Seen on old Japanese releases, including Hearts and Minds - Truthful Platoon and Bang the drum slowly.

2nd Logo (1990s)

Visuals: On a white background, a translucent lavender sphere zooms out, while 2 sky blue spikes, with one much larger than the other, slide across the surface of it.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: None.

Availability: Was spotted on the Japanese VHS release of Expect No Mercy, and other releases.
