Background

Grupo Ivex is a Barcelona-based film distributor which disappeared in the mid-'90s under suspicious circumstances. It was Filmax's parent company and the official distributor of Thorn EMI Video in Spain.

1st Logo (1984-1985)

Visuals: On a red background, 2 red squares with yellow outlines intersect each other with trails in a arc, each with a strange pixelated rectangle in it. They appear again and curve up into the top of the screen. They finally appear on the sides of the screen and combine into one square, in which it splits into 4 sections. They drift off the screen and reveal a space background and the Grupo Ivex logo for the time zooming in. This variant has the Thorn-EMI logo, but consists of the uneven rectangles "GRUPO" and IVEX". They both have bars that extend along the edge, though the left doesn't reach the bottom rectangle.

Technique: Cel animation.

Audio: 3 whooshes at the beginning, then a space synth tune, which is actually "1984" by Van Halen.

Availability: Seen on quite a few children's videos, Thorn-EMI Video releases, and Filmax tapes. [Examples?]

2nd Logo (1985-1994)

Visuals: On a white background, a red square is seen rotating quickly while it slowly zooms out. It then changes to yellow, then blue, and then back to red before it splits into a multitude of red, black, yellow, and blue squares emerge from it. They then form the loosely-shaped text "ivex" in red, blue, and yellow respectively, with black added in to give the illusion of it wrapping around. The text the fades to a tighter, yet blocky version, followed by a version where its rounded off, and then adds sparkles, shine marks, gradients, and filmstrip holes. "FILMS S.A." fades in below on the bottom right and sparkles flash throughout the text. Both words then disappear as the "ivex" text melds together to create a rectangle with a evening sky, as "presenta" flashes in one by one.

Variant: Later on, "GRUPO" appears above the text abruptly before disappearing as the text melds together. It may be in a similar font to "FILMS S.A." or in a thin font.

Technique: Cel animation.

Audio: A beeping synth tune that changes intervals very frequently.

Availability: Seen on later VHS's from them, mostly from Filmax. [Examples?]

  • Do note that the previous logo was still used as a print logo until 1994, when it started to say "FILMAX GROUP".
  • It can also be seen on NBC and CBS' Saturday morning reruns of cartoons from 1989-1991, such as Garbage Pail Kids (1987) and My Little Pony (1986), respectively. Real or Fake?
