Background

Hemdale Home Video was the video distribution arm of Hemdale Film Corporation. Hemdale never had a home video arm until 1991; most of their films were previously released by Thorn EMI Video (which later became HBO Video) and sometimes, Vestron, Embassy, and Nelson. Hemdale Home Video was closed in 1995 with the demise of its parent company.

(1991-1995)

Logo: On a black background, we see gold bars zooming out quickly. The gold bars turn, and we see they are the words:

HEMDALE
HOME VIDEO, INC.

A gold bar flies and places itself into the space where the "H" and "E" and the byline are separated.

FX/SFX: All of the animation in the logo is done in quite solid CGI for the time.

Music/Sounds: A sudden synth, followed by a synthesized hissing noise, whooshes and a tambourine (in which echoes) when the gold bar places itself.

Availability: Uncommon, but way more common than any Hemdale logo. Seen on VHS releases of films such as Bed & Breakfast, Little Nemo: Adventure in Slumberland, Beautiful Dreamers, The Princess and the Goblin, Savage Land, Quest of the Delta Knights, The Magic Voyage, President's Target, Confessions of a Hitman, Hoosiers, Elves, Soultaker, The Cellar, The Return of the Living Dead, and early copies of Highlander 2: Renegade Version. Hemdale's first home video release was a reissue of The Terminator, but early copies of said release don't use this logo; it does appear on later reprints, as well as (oddly enough) the 1997 Image Entertainment DVD. Also appears on the 2007 GT Media DVD of The Story of Christmas.
