Background
This is the home video publishing unit of the Japanese TV network Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS).
1st Logo (1980s-1991)
Visuals: Unknown
Technique: A still computer graphic.
Audio: None.
Availability: Unknown.
2nd Logo (1991-1992)
Visuals: Unknown
Variants:
- The logo may be still with "TBS VIDEO" below.
- On a 1992 VHS release of Kitaro's Two Years' Vacation, the same animation plays normally. However, when the logo is formed, it plays in reverse with a big sphere zooming and disappearing.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: A fantasy-oriented theme. None for the still version
Audio Variant: The variant had an Indonesian kecak vocal ensemble.
Availability: Seen on Japanese VHS releases from that company, such as Where is Waldo?. The variant was used for Kitaro's Two Years' Vacation. It was also used as a Station ID.
3rd Logo (1992-1994)
Visuals: Unknown
Technique: CGI.
Audio: A synthesized dramatic fanfare.
Availability: Unknown. [Examples?]
4th Logo (1994-2000)
Visuals: The letters for "TBS" spin onto screen from the right on the background of an increasingly zoomed-out Earth. The letters get into formation as the Earth (with a Northern lights effect on the top end of the planet) gradually fade away into a blue background as the word "Video" appears underneath "TBS."
Trivia: This logo was taken from the last seconds of the network's Startup/Closedown ID they have at the time.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: A crystallized fanfare.
Availability: The logo first appears on TBS Video releases starting from 1994. However, this logo would not appear on home media releases of anime they were involved in until 1998 at the very earliest. The logo will usually make an appearance on releases that have this specific logo on their packaging. This logo appears on the 1998 VHS releases of Futarigurashi, the 1999 LD releases of Sorcerous Stabber Orphen, Pet Shop of Horrors, and the 2000 DVD release of Iketeru Futari. The logo also makes an appearance on the 1998 VHS releases of Keiji Yoroshiku.
