InterCom is a Hungarian multimedia distributor based in Budapest. Founded in 1989 by Andrew G. Vajna (co-founder of Carolco Pictures), the company was the largest VHS and DVD distributor in Hungary during the 90's and early 2000s, having gained distribution rights from most major Hollywood studios; this included Paramount Pictures after 1998 as inherited from UIP-Duna Film. It did lose the Warner Bros. and Columbia rights in 2001 after Warner Home Video entered the market.
Since its foundation in 1989, InterCom has not only established itself as the largest film, video and DVD distributor and cinema exhibitor in Hungary, but much, much more: it has grown to be the flagship of visual entertainment in the country, a market-leading innovator of the movie business, pioneering modern film and video distribution in the Hungarian market. The company also intends to become the driving force behind the boom of 21st Century in new generation cinemas and was the first to introduce multiplex theaters to Hungarian audiences, being one of the most successful multiplex operators to date.

InterCom also operated several multiplex cinemas across the country, the first of which (the Hollywood Multiplex in the Duna Mall) opened in November 1996. The company exited the cinema business in August 2006, and today mainly operates as a leading film distributor and co-producer.

Background

InterCom is a Hungarian multimedia distributor based in Budapest. Founded in 1989 by Andrew G. It did lose the Warner Bros. and Columbia rights in 2001 after Warner Home Video entered the market.

InterCom also operated several multiplex cinemas across the country, the first of which (the Hollywood Multiplex in the Duna Mall) opened in November 1996. The company exited the cinema business in August 2006, and today mainly operates as a leading film distributor and co-producer.

1st Logo (1990-1991)

Visuals: The sequence starts out zooming around a starfield in circles. Then an explosion occurs, sending meteorites and triangular glass shards in flight. The Intercom logo, a green/purple oblong shape with green streaked triangles at the top and bottom, spins around toward the camera, while the nebular wisps fly around.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A synth choir/drum tune.

Availability: It was spotted on a 1991 VHS release of Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

2nd Logo (1991-1993)

Visuals: On a quaked earth crust, while light can be seen shining, parts of the quake are moving sideways. The Intercom logo passes through, sending those crust parts in the air. Then the camera pans around until the logo settles frontally on a black background.

Variant: Sometimes, the logo settles in front of a space background.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A shortened version of the 1st logo's jingle.

Availability: Seen on tapes of movies from Warner Bros. and Columbia, such as a 1992 VHS release of The Hot Spot.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A new age fanfare.

Availability: Can be seen on tapes of Disney movies from the time period. [Examples?]

4th Logo (1997-)

Visuals: The letters of the InterCom logo, made of glass and at times shining in gold, fly in. Just as they settle, the inner oblong of the logo puts itself in place, then 5 pairs of light beams fly in and form the streaked triangles, followed by the outer oblong closing onto the logo.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A rearranged version of the previous jingle's first notes with tubular bells and whooshes.

Audio Variants:

 • On the Hungarian VHS of Toy Story 2, the music is played in a fast pace.
 • VHS releases have a slower version of the theme, which changes key when the flash appears.
 • An orchestrated rearranged variant was found, and is only seen in cinemas.
