Background

Johnny Mak is a Hong Kong film distributor.

1st Logo (1984-1989)

Logo: On a white background, we see a director's chair appearing. The Chinese company name in yellow appears below letter-by-letter, followed by the English name wiping in from left to right.

Variant: A still version exists.

FX/SFX: The chair and text appearing.

Music/Sounds: A low-pitched crash, which segues into a bombastic, happy sounding synth fanfare with whooshes and an explosive finale. The fanfare is heard on the other texts too. This sounds a lot like the fourth logo for Rank Screen Advertising.

Availability: Rare.

2nd Logo (1987-1989)

Logo: Just an in-credit text of Johnny Mak Productions logo along with the print logo of Golden Harvest, Win's Entertainment or Movie Impact present.

FX/SFX: None

Music/Sounds: None or the opening theme of movie. On a rare occasion, it uses the second half of the music for the next logo.

Availability: Super rare. Preceded by the 1st logo or 3rd logo.

3rd Logo (1983-1984, 1990-1997)

Logo: On a black background, a light is activated and a director's chair is seen rising and spinning from the floor. We zoom into the chair, and after the spinning stops, the word "JM" appears, and then the company name.

Variants: On films such as Possessed, Everlasting Love, Sex and Zen and The Island of Greed, the logo is animated in CGI.

FX/SFX: 2D animation, or CGI.

Music/Sounds: A dramatic, triumphant jingle.

Availability: Rare.
