Background

Laser Paradise was a pirated home video company from Germany.

1st Logo (1998-2000's)

Visuals: There is an asteroid on a collision course as it aims for Earth and passes by the Sun and another planet. Once out of the shot, a set of DVDs fly in from various directions to obscure the view of Earth. 16 covers of various action/horror movies appear, which includes (as they form from top left to bottom right):

  • The Evil Dead
  • The Rock
  • Total Recall
  • Wishmaster
  • Hard to Kill
  • Mike Mendez' Killers
  • Mad Max
  • Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior
  • Demon Knight
  • From Dusk Till Dawn
  • Hard Boiled
  • Hard Boiled II
  • The Last Boy Scout
  • Con Air
  • The Crow
  • Dead Presidents

The asteroid is then revealed to destroy the wall of DVDs. After seeing all the DVD covers fly in, the screen zooms into Earth. Arriving there, there is an island with on top the Laser Paradise logo. After it a laser shines on it and destroys the Island. The screen then cuts to seeing the logo in space.

Technique: A mix of computer animation and CGI.

Audio: An upbeat rave/trance theme. As the asteroid crashes through the wall of DVDs (as well as when the laser destroys the island), an explosion is heard, and when focused on the island, seagulls and ocean ambience can be barely heard.

Availability: Seen on bootleg LaserDisc and DVD releases from the company. Such titles include The Shawshank Redemption, True Romance, Flash Gordon, Total Recall (1990), and The Crow, among others.

2nd Logo (2000s)

Visuals: A CD flies in space to Earth. It then goes over an island into the water and spins fast. After it there is an explosion revealing the Laser Paradise logo.

Technique: A mix of 2D computer animation and CGI.

Audio: Space ambience, the zooms and accelerating of the CD, an explosion sound, and glittering when the logo forms. Two dramatic science fiction drum beats are heard when the CD reaches Earth and then a synth note is held when the logo forms.

Availability: Seen on bootleg DVD releases from the company of such films as Dune (1984) and Akira.

3rd Logo (2000s)

Visuals: The camera enters a gate while lightning "strikes". Inside there is a cemetery and a small church. After opening the door, the camera enters a gateway while many posters become visible (which happens to have two posters being duplicated across the hall as well as a couple of posters of multiple releases distributed by this company under this brand). At the end there is a door that gets opened leaving the entrance to a small theater with candles. Then everything fades to black and we see the Laser Paradise logo, after which there is the text "präsentiert die" becoming visible and at the end blood is flowing through the curtain with the text "RED EDITION" appearing in the blood.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Thunder, laughing, opening doors, groaning and a large scream at the end. During the screams, we can also hear some maniacal laughter, which is sampled from the Vincent Price section in "Thriller" by Michael Jackson.

Availability: Seen on Braindead amongst others. Most likely to appear in special edition Red DVDs.
