Background
Screen Legends was a video label of the Pickwick Group that released mostly children's content on VHS.
Logo (November 3, 1986-1989)
Visuals: On a blue/white gradient background, a red rectangular border is drawn clockwise, which fills with red. Then, a gold star flips in from the right to the top of the rectangle. A white border is added behind that. Then, the words "SCREEN" and "LEGENDS", in a white Revue font, zoom out from the bottom below the star. The star then shines with a few pings.
Variants:
- A variant of this logo which has the star flipping in from the left side of the logo instead of the right exists, which is seen at the end of some UK VHS tapes (and sometimes at the start of them).
- A variant of this logo which freezes towards the end of some UK VHS tapes after the animation finishes also exists, which is seen on Worzel Gummidge Volumes 1 and 2, Henry's Cat & Friends: The Magic Tummy Button, and some copies of Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends: The Deputation and Other Stories, respectively.
Technique: Computer animation.
Audio: A synth tune with a rising eight-note horn fanfare, similar to Carolco Pictures. This is actually from the Bruton Music library titled "Ricotti Logo 9" composed by Frank Ricotti.
Availability: Seen on UK VHS releases by Screen Legends from the time-period until 1989.
- Examples include the Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends Season 2 releases of Thomas, Percy and the Coal and Other Stories, Percy and Harold and Other Stories, and The Deputation and Other Stories, Paddington Bear's 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th 'Anywhen' TV Shows releases, Worzel Gummidge, Henry's Cat, and the 1986 UK VHS re-release of Nursery Rhymes, respectively, among many others.
- It is also seen at the start and end of both the 1986 UK VHS releases of The Golden Treasury of Classic Fairy Tales, and Famous Five: Five Go to the Mystery Moor, the 1987 UK VHS releases of Beethoven's Fidelio, and The Water Babies (1978), the 1988 UK VHS releases of ABBA: The Video Hits and ABBA: More Video Hits, and the 1989 UK VHS release of Incredible Creatures 1, respectively.
- It is also seen at the start of the 1988 UK VHS release of Jack in the Box Volume 2: The Animals Went In Two by Two as well, but not at the end of it.
- This logo also does not appear on the 1988 UK VHS release of The Worst Witch, as the opening variant of the 1983 Central logo is seen at the start and end instead.
