Background

Shankar Movies was a film production company from India.



1st Logo (December 22, 1972)

Visuals: The logo starts with "SHANKAR MOVIES" in red, on the lower part of the screen. Then, dark background fades out to show usa small sculpture of the Hindu god Shiva, seated with the serpent Shesha over his head, over a dark soil, on a blue background. Below the chair, there is a kind of onion on the left, and some sticks on the right. There's a heavy fog, which comes from behind the chair.

Technique: Live action.

Audio: None.

Availability: Only seen on Gora Aur Kala.

2nd Logo (January 16, 1976-December 5, 1997)

Visuals: There is a small sculpture of Shiva and Shesha above a table with a white cloth. There are some weapons on the left side of the sculpture, and smoke is coming out of the tubes from it. The man is holding a cane, which touches the surface. The yellow text "SHANKAR MOVIES" fades in.

Variant: On Aulad Ke Dushman, the logo is tinted red, and the table isn't visible. The text is in a different font, and in white, and before it fades in, the logo freezes.

Technique: A fading effect.

Audio: The music varies.

  • Badle Ki Aag: None.
  • Aulad Ke Dushman: A droning tampura theme.
  • Virodhi and Qahar: A traditional sitar theme.
  • Nagin and Jaani Dushman: A five-note bell melody, followed by a strum from a swarmandal, and other 3 notes with the percussion fading out.
  • Pati Patni Aur Tawaif: The opening theme of the film.
  • Jeene Nahi Doonga: A flute melody, with some birds tweeting.

Availability: Was only seen on 7 movies. All them are mentioned in the Audio section.

3rd Logo (January 2, 1987)

Visuals: The logo starts with a silhouette of a more detailed statue of Shiva in a temple, where a light eventually illuminates the entire statue. As it is fully revealed, "SHANKAR MOVIES" appears and zooms out from the bottom and stops in front of the statue.

Technique: A mix of live action and cel animation.

Audio: A sitar melody.

Availability: Only known to appear on Insaniyat Ke Dushman.

4th Logo (August 16, 2002)

Visuals: Blue fog appears. Two lights appear from both bottom corners and move near the center. Then they move from the top to form a picture of Shiva, which then zooms out. The silver text "SHANKAR MOVIES" then scrolls to the left, and zooms out to place itself in front of Shiva. Lights move around the picture.

Technique: CGI by Govardhan Vigraham.

Audio: Same as the Nagin variant from the third logo.

Availability: Only seen on Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani.
