Background

Wood Knapp & Co., also known as Wood Knapp Video or simply Wood Knapp, was a home entertainment distributor founded by Betsy Wood Knapp in 1988. Its headquarters were in Los Angeles, California. Wood Knapp distributed the Children's Circle releases from Weston Woods, obscure United Artists releases, classic teleplays such as Marty and Requiem for a Heavyweight, fitness videos, and even VHS releases on the 1988 Summer Olympics, among others.

The company's releases were also distributed in the UK, Germany, Spain and Italy. In the UK, Wood Knapp releases were originally distributed by Pickwick Video between 1989 and 1991, then by The Video Collection for the rest of Wood Knapp's existence. In Germany, Taurus Video distributed Wood Knapp releases starting in 1990 and continuing through Wood Knapp's final years. In Spain, Filmax distributed Wood Knapp releases between 1991 and 1993. In Italy, Multivision Video distributed Wood Knapp releases between 1990 and 1993.

The company declared bankruptcy in January 1995, blaming low profits and high costs,[1] and ceased operations on December 31 of that year.

Logo (February 10, 1988-January 1995)

Visuals: On a shady pale blue gradient background, a rainbow-gradient scribble, shaped vaguely like an "N", draws in as it zooms out to the left side of the screen. After it stops drawing, the platinum words "Wood Knapp" fade in, then "a", above "Wood Knapp", and "production", below it, fade in, making it:

a

Wood Knapp
production

At the end of tapes, it reads:

Wood Knapp
Video

Everything casts a drop shadow.

Variant: Occasionally, the opening logo's text will read:

Wood Knapp
Video

presents

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A friendly tune comprised of a saxophone and bells.

Availability: Seen on tapes including Children's Circle releases (the tape of Corduroy lacks this logo), One Minute Bible Stories with Shari Lewis and Lamb Chop, Wood Knapp releases of fitness VHS tapes, and some United Artists releases.
