Background

This was an American home entertainment company.

Brentwood Home Video

1st Logo (1987-1992)

Visuals: On a black background, a green version of the Brentwood Home Video print logo dives down and zooms in from the top of the screen. The logo consists of the word "BRENTWOOD" in a stylized font, with the "O"s interlocked, a la the Bloomingdale's and Kool Cigarette logos, and the letters on each end being larger, and a green box in the shape of an open book with "H O M E V I D E O" on it below.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: An ascending synth note followed by another synth note, sounding vaguely similar to the THX "Deep Note".

Availability: Seen on releases from the time. [Examples?]

2nd Logo (1992-2000)

Visuals: On a black space background, there is a close-up of a glass "R". It eases to the back of the screen, revealing it to be part of the word "BRENTWOOD" in the same font as the previous logo, but now colored gray and made of glass. As it zooms back, a purple box slides in and turns up. The box is in the shape of an open book and it says "H O M E V I D E O" in a sans font. The logo rests on the the upper center of the screen.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A looped synthesized new age tune with '80s-style drumbeats on the first part and jingles towards the end.

Availability: Seen on VHS releases of TV shows, among others. One of the series is Animation Classics (with one of the videos being Popeye.)

Brentwood Communications

1st Logo (2000-2004)

Visuals: There is a blue background with moving lights, with the text

BRENTWOOD
C O M M U N I C A T I O N S

eventually zooming in, with "C O M M U N I C A T I O N S" in an open-book shaped box and the entire logo colored silver, tilted at a right angle. It looks exactly like the Brentwood Home Video logo.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A synth choir, which culminates into a dramatic synth sounder with drumbeats.

Availability: This can be seen on many DVDs of TV shows and public domain films, such as DVDs of Fangs of the Living Dead and Classic Cartoons volumes 1 and 2, among others.

2nd Logo (2003-2008)

Visuals: On a white background, there is the 1987 Brentwood Home Video print logo in black. As the background fades to a transparent gray color, the camera zooms out to reveal that the logo is being shown on a big screen television set in a living room setting with the sun gleaming through the window. The logo zooms out to the "C" in the current BCI logo, which consists of "BCI" in a blue futuristic font with a crescent at the left. Underneath that is a line and "A NAVARRE CORPORATION COMPANY", with "NAVARRE" in its corporate font.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A dramatic synth bell tune mixed with pounding drums.

Availability: It can be seen on many DVDs of TV shows and some specials including DVD Classic Cartoons volumes 1&2. It also appeared on a DVD release of A Killing Affair and the 25th Anniversary DVD release of H.B. Halicki's Gone in 60 Seconds.

3rd Logo (2006-2008)

Visuals: On a white background, a light blue eclipse-like ring appears and zooms in. A line is drawn and "BCI" flips up, shining in the process, and the Navarre byline appears below as the eclipse fades into the crescent. The "BCI" text then shines and, while the logo fades out, the crescent shoots towards the screen at a high speed. If one looks closely at the last second, the logo disappears.

Technique: 2D digital animation.

Audio: It started with a cymbal roll and then a three dramatic string stinger with a timpani drumroll.

Availability: This was used with the 2nd logo. It can be seen on The Best of The Price is Right: Volume 1 and the Happy Tree Friends TV series volumes.
