Background

Milky Cartoon is a Japanese animation studio founded in 1998, and began producing and animating a series of shorts based on Naomi Iwata's Pecola characters for Fuji Television as part of Ponkickies that same year. This led to Pecola becoming a wider household name across Japan (as the characters originated in PC games). Alongside that, the company also worked with Iwata on producing/animating Gregory Horror Show and Midnight Horror School respectively. The success of the Pecola shorts caught the attention of Nelvana, who wanted to adapt the franchise for television. The Pecola series which was produced by Nelvana, Milky Cartoon and Yomiko Advertising, debuted on Teletoon in Canada in 2001 and ended the following year with a total of 26 episodes across two seasons. After that, the studio moved on to other projects until 2020, when it was restructured into MC Holdings.
