Background

Odyssey Video was a home video company from United Kingdom.

1st Logo (1983-1990s)

Visuals: On a sky blue background with shimmering water below, a dark blue compass flies down and eases in towards the screen. Soon it stops, the water disappears and below "ODYSSEY" in white fades in below.

Variants:

  • The logo was used in a still for previews. It is upward and smaller with "OTHER TITLES FROM OUR CATALOGUE" in white below.
  • A textless variant exists.

Technique: Analogue 2D animation with live-action elements.

Audio: A whooshing sound followed by an excerpt from a synthesized rendition of Gounod's "Ave Maria". The particular version in this logo is "Song of Mary" by Alan Hawkshaw and is part of the KPM library. The full piece can be heard here.

Availability:

  • Seen on releases from the UK such as The Cartier Affair, That Sinking Feeling, Christmas on Division Street and Dennis the Menace: Dinosaur Hunter (released in the UK as Just Dennis).
  • It is also intact at the beginning of Amazon Prime Video's print of Act of Will.

2nd Logo (Mid 1990s-)

Visuals: A gold colored compass is shown on a black background along with the company name in gold capital lettering.

Technique: Unknown.

Audio: None.

Availability: Unknown. [Examples?]
