Background
Yash Raj Films (YRF) is a company set up by Yash Raj Chopra, an Indian film director and producer. He initially worked for his brother's production company (B.R. Films) and set up his own company in 1970. This production company had three consecutive hits in 2004 and in 2005 had two box office hits.
1st Logo (Early 1980's)
Visuals: Unknown
Variants:
- On Chandni, the logo is colored silver-blue, the color of moonlight ("chandni").
- On Lamhe, the logo is yellow and appears in a zoom-out shot from the sun.
Technique: Unknown
Audio: Unknown
Availability: Seen on films the company produced, namely Chandni and Lamhe.
2nd Logo (Mid 1990's-2004)
Visuals: On a black background, there are some gold lines forming the logo in camera angles, while the camera zooms into the letter Y. When the animation is done, the words "yash raj" and "films" slide in, coming respectively from the right and the left. Now the name reds "yash raj films".
Technique: CGI.
Audio: A synthesized fanfare with the sitar strum before the final hit.
Availability: Unknown. [Examples?]
3rd Logo (1995)
Visuals: Unknown
Technique: Unknown
Audio: Same as the last logo.
Availability: It was seen on the original release of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Saved on DVD, but removed from Blu-ray.
4th Logo (2004-)
Visuals: Unknown
Variants:
- Sultan Trailer Variant: the logo is brown, to represent the earthy wrestling arena.
- Pathaan: the logo appears on the side of a metal block that reads "YRF Spy Universe".
- Starting around the 2010s, the background turns white, with the exception of the glass Yash Raj logo, and "yash raj films" fades in on the white space.
- The short variant exists which is used on trailers such as "Roadside Romeo".
Technique: CGI.
Audio: A 16mm film projector sound with a dreamy sounder with some bells at the beginning, the single sitar pluck followed by the repetitive "squelching" bassline played on Roland TB-303, increasing in the low-pass filter frequency for the reminder of the logo, then some harp strums followed by the timpani roll and the reversed cymbal crash.
Availability: Seen on post-2004 releases from the company. [Examples?]
- Sometimes, it would plaster older logos, like in the case of Dil To Pagal Hai.
