Background

The company itself originated in 1981 as Karl Video Corporation. After releasing documentaries, the company hit big in 1982 with Jane Fonda's Workout series, while expanding on its roots to include Warren Miller ski documentaries, exercise videos with Richard Simmons and independent feature films. It was later renamed to Karl Home Video in 1984, and the company was later sold to Lorimar Productions later that year, while renaming the home video company Karl-Lorimar Home Video.

1st Logo (1982)

Logo: Below the RCA SelectaVision Videodiscs logo, we see a white box with the black blocky word "KVC". Below it was the text "KARL VIDEO CORPORATION".

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Seen on the first edition of Jane Fonda's Workout.

2nd Logo (1983-1985)

Logo: We see parts of the bottom of a giant "K" slide up from the bottom of the screen, and the top half (in whole) flip up afterward. After, the K glows orange and gains a much thicker outline. The end result looks similar to the logo of Kartes Video Communications. There is no company name below the logo.

Variant: There is also a print version that was seen at the start of Jane Fonda's Workout videos where the "K" stood in the box with "KARL" on the left and "VIDEO" on the right.

Technique: Computer effects.

Music/Sounds: An upbeat disco fanfare, "Winning Momentum" by Craig Palmer from Network Music, but the logo is usually silent.

Availability: It can be found on VHS releases of Money Hunt and the first releases in the Jane Fonda's Workout series, among others. Some original Karl releases were released by Karl-Lorimar in their original Karl-only packaging.
