Background

Right Entertainment was Entertainment Rights' home video division that distributed the company's content and select third-party acquisitions across the United Kingdom. It was formed in August 2001, and their releases were distributed by Universal Pictures Video UK/Universal Pictures International Entertainment UK.

Following Entertainment Rights' folding and rebranding as Classic Media in 2009, the Right Entertainment name was retired in favour of the Classic Media brand as well.

Logo (October 29, 2001-March 23, 2009)

Visuals: The camera rotates around the gold word "RIGHT". A shooting star flies around the logo as the camera continues to zoom out and reveals that the logo is set within night-time background with a full moon above the ocean at the bottom. The shooting star creates a "figure 8" shape as it flies into the water while two more shooting stars fly off as the word "ENTERTAINMENT" on the bottom of "RIGHT" appears via the shining wipe effect.

Variants:

  • On earlier VHS and DVD releases, the logo is letterboxed to fullscreen, though later VHS and DVD releases that have the promo for the company's catalogue have the logo cropped to fullscreen.
  • On Transformers: Armada - Vol. 1, Clifford: Forever Friends and Transformers: Armada - The Collector's Edition, a short version is used where only the last half of the logo is shown.
  • The print logo is similar to the Entertainment Rights logo, except there are three shooting stars instead of one star and the man's head, and also the words are in white. It can be seen on promos and DVD/VHS covers. Onscreen, there are four known variations:
    • The first variation, seen on a trailer for Barbie in the Nutcracker, has the print logo on a white background with a byline for Entertainment Rights below. Two versions are known to exist - one with just the logo and byline, and one with a Mattel copyright notice at the bottom.
    • The second variation, used on 2002-2003 adverts and promos, features the logo on the same coloured background as the logo itself, meaning no box is shown.
    • The third variation, used on a 2004 promo for the company's catalogue, shows the print logo zooming out against a navy-blue gradient background.
    • The fourth variation, used on a 2005 promo for the company's catalogue, has the three shooting stars fly to their usual spots on a solid navy-blue background, with the words sliding into place as this happens. Once the stars and text are in their proper places, the rightmost star leaves its trail.

Technique: CGI. 2D computer animation for the print version.

Audio: The sounds of the shooting star and water splashing, alongside a drumbeat with a choir and the sound of waves.

Audio Variants:

  • The print version has no music, but on the Right Entertainment VHS/DVD promos, an instrumental version of the song "Boom Boom!" from The Basil Brush Show plays.
  • At the start of said promos, an announcer is heard saying "Right Entertainment brings you the biggest, brightest and best lineup of characters ever. Switch on to hours of fun for kids of all ages, out now on video and DVD."
  • At the start of the 2005 version, the announcer is heard saying "Right Entertainment brings you the biggest, brightest and best lineup of characters straight into your home. Switch on to hours of fun for kids of all ages with our fantastic range."
  • At the end of said promos, the announcer is heard saying "For happy faces and smiles all around, choose Right Entertainment."

Availability:

  • Appears on almost all releases from the company; releases typically sport the company's logo on the packaging. It's still easy to find otherwise despite ER's folding into Classic Media.
  • It first appeared on the VHS release of Barbie in the Nutcracker and last appeared on the Postman Pat: SDS DVD release "To the Rescue!".
  • It appears on home media releases of properties owned or distributed by Entertainment Rights in the United Kingdom, including Christopher Crocodile, Budgie the Little Helicopter, Barney the Dog (a British TV series, not to be confused with Barney & Friends), The Family Ness, Arthur, Cubeez, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Merlin the Magical Puppy, Finger Tips, Transformers: Armada, Grabbit the Rabbit, Felix the Cat, The Basil Brush Show, Postman Pat, Watership Down, Ethelbert the Tiger, Little Red Tractor, Meeow!, Clifford's Puppy Days, The Story of Tracy Beaker, My Parents are Aliens, Lavender Castle, the Trumptonshire trilogy, Jim Jam and Sunny, Finley the Fire Engine, Rupert Bear: Follow the Magic... and Postman Pat: Special Delivery Service, among many, many others.
    • It also appears on movies and specials such as the Barbie direct-to-video movies, The Tangerine Bear: Home in Time for Christmas, Sinbad: Beyond the Veil of Mists, Jingle Bells, O' Christmas Tree and We Wish You a Merry Christmas, among others.
      • Australian DVD releases of the Barbie movies also utilise this logo, because of the discs being the same as the UK releases.
    • It also shows up on various compilation releases such as Children's Christmas Collection, Football Fun Collection, and Christmas Fun Time.
  • On most releases, such as the 2002 UK VHS releases of Clifford the Big Red Dog, O' Christmas Tree and We Wish You a Merry Christmas (both 1999), among others, the 1997 Universal logo (mainly the version with both the URL and 1997 Universal Studios copyright notice) precedes this one, although on earlier VHS releases and on one DVD release (Finger Tips: The One with... Balloony Boogie), it appears after this logo.
    • The first VHS volumes of Christopher Crocodile, Barney the Dog and The Family Ness, all released in April 2002, use the E.T variant of the 1997 Universal logo. However, the 2003 "Back 2 Back" single cassette re-release of Christopher Crocodile and The Family Ness does not contain this logo, although the print logo remains on the packaging.
    • Some releases such as the 2001 UK VHS releases of Barbie in the Nutcracker and Barbie as Rapunzel (and especially post-2005 releases) only have the Right logo on its own without any Universal logo appearing.
  • This logo is also retained on the 2010s Classic Media/Universal re-releases of select DVD releases and Universal reissues of the Barbie movies, as the discs are the same.
    • The 2013 re-release of Postman Pat: Magic Christmas, despite the entire packaging being changed, also still uses this logo as the disc content is exactly the same as the original 2003 release.
