Background
Stage 6 Films is a low budget and direct-to-DVD company for Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group formed in fall 2007 and headquartered at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, CA. Some of their films are also released theatrically.
1st Logo (January 22, 2008-October 6, 2009)
This logo contains flashing images at 0:03-0:06. |
Visuals: Over a black background is "STAGE 6" in white lettering, with a white cut-out box on the number "6". Above the logo is a cumulus cloud. The background flickers from black to white with the logo in black. The logo flickers more until the word "FILMS", in a smaller font, fades in under the "6".
Technique: 2D animation.
Audio: Music for the movie's intro or the sound of a projector.
Availability: Seen on such films like Three Can Play That Game, Zombie Strippers, Missionary Man, and Starship Troopers 3: Maruder, among others.
2nd Logo (October 19, 2009-)
Visuals: Over a dark cloudy background, the relief word "STAGE", in Bank Gothic MD BT font, is revealed and the logo moves back. The white carving of "STAGE" appears on the left black side of the surface, as the number "6" appears in black on the right and light side, forming "STAGE 6". Starting in 2012, the Sony byline fades in below afterwards.
Bylines:
- August 17, 2012-July 22, 2014: "a SONY PICTURES ENTERTAINMENT company"
- June 5, 2015-November 7, 2017: "a SONY company"
- January 5, 2018-: "a Sony Company"
Variants:
- There is a color variant.
- Starting with Insidious: The Last Key, the word "FILMS" appears next to the "6", plus the camera ends at a different angle. The byline, which is slightly altered, is shifted to the left slightly.
- Starting with Greyhound, the 2014 Sony logo transitions to this logo.
- Starting with Umma, the 2021 Sony logo now transitions to this logo.
- On The Front Runner, 2 blue lines are drawn with the text in blue appearing after on a night sky background. This is to fit the film's 1980s theme.
- On Missing, after the logo is done, it transitions to TV static like the other logos.
- On the American trailer for Sisu, the logo is tinted in blue.
Closing Variant: Essentially just the Stage 6 logo from the previous logo, but without the cloud and with "FILMS" being bigger and bolded. The Sony byline is below.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: A whoosh followed by a soft bell and piano tune. Sometimes, the opening theme of the movie is used.
Availability:
- It was first seen on Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day.
- It's seen on some films produced by the company such as 2 Guns, Colombiana, Robot & Frank, and the Don't Breathe series, and the Sony variant appears on the aforementioned title.
- This logo plasters the 2011 Paramount Pictures logo on Netflix and international prints of Arrival.
- The 2013 color version of the logo plasters on the U.S. release of Bel Ami (2012).
- It does not appear at the beginning of A Man Called Otto; however, the closing logo appears at the end credits, preceding the Sony and Columbia Pictures logos.
- On international prints of The Edge of Seventeen, the full animated logo only appears after the end credits along with the Sony Pictures Releasing International logo, making the opening only have the SPRI logo, then the rest of the logos, even though Stage 6 is still credited in the opening credits.
- Despite co-producing The Garfield Movie, this logo does not appear on the film itself, as that film was released under the Columbia Pictures banner instead.
