Background

Founded in early 1991, Turner Feature Animation was Turner Entertainment's theatrical animation division headed by David Kirschner and Paul Gertz. Spun off from the feature film division of Hanna-Barbera Productions, the studio produced only two films: The Pagemaster and Cats Don't Dance. When Turner and Time Warner merged on October 10, 1996, Turner Feature Animation was absorbed into Warner Bros. Feature Animation.

1st Logo (1997)

Visuals: Over a light blue curtain background is the print logo for Turner Pictures that was used during this time, except "PICTURES" is replaced by "FEATURE", with "ANIMATION" below "TURNER FEATURE".

Variant: An alternate version exists with the "FEATURE ANIMATION" text removed and the "TURNER" text above the mansion. The logo is also completely white and put on a dark blue background.

Technique: A still graphic.

Audio: None or the opening theme of the trailer.

Availability:

  • Only seen on the trailer for Cats Don't Dance.
  • The alternate logo can be seen on the wrap party tape for the aforementioned film.
  • This was the animation division's official logo, but a special title card was shown at the beginning of Cats Don't Dance instead (see the second logo).

2nd Logo (March 26, 1997)

Visuals: On a black background is an orange basketball with a red biplane (with a blue propeller on it) flying above. There's a white blimp on the basketball and the airplane makes blue marks that resemble drops of water. Over the basketball is "TURNER FEATURE ANIMATION" in an Art Deco font, and underneath the logo is the "PRESENTS" on a red ribbon. The word "ANIMATION" is on a green bar.

Technique: A still, hand-drawn graphic.

Audio: The opening theme of the movie.

Availability: Only seen on Cats Don't Dance.
