Background

Astron-6 was a Canadian film production company founded in 2007 by Adam Brooks and Jeremy Gillespie. Their focus includes horror comedy movies with a 1980's feel. By 2020, the company went defunct.

1st Logo (October 26, 2007-April 22, 2010)

Visuals: After brief static, a stylized white "A" made up of a three-lined path growing in thickness with each succeeding stroke stretches in on a black background. As three long, horizontal lines scroll in from the left to cut through the logo, the background gains a bottom dark red gradient and "ASTRON-6 VIDEO" fades in below. Before the logo is fully sliced in half, it becomes red.

Variants:

  • On Cool Guys, the logo is put through a distorted VHS filter. At the end, the screen zooms and tilts into the "A"'s counter, crossfading into the opening of the film.
  • On Lazer Ghosts 2: Return to Laser Cove, the logo gains a bottom blue shadow, and the background is changed to a zooming blue grid background.
  • On Heart of Karl, the animation is slower and the background remains solid black.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: A high-pitched synth drone plays. A descending warbling synth sound effect is heard when the bars slide in. Otherwise, the opening theme of the film plays over.

Availability: The logo is seen on the trailer to H.I.Z. (erection der zombi), Inferno of the Dead (the only film to use the fanfare), Cool Guys, and Breaking Santa.

2nd Logo (September 22, 2011-September 21, 2012)

Visuals: On a black background, the logo from before is put through a monitor effect and tinted red. At the beginning the logo briefly glitches. During its zoom-out, the text from the previous logo wipes in and moves in-sync with the symbol.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: An ominous howling sound starts the logo sequence. Static plays for the brief glitching and deep, distorted beeping is heard for the text's formation.

Availability: The logo is seen on Manborg and the end of Bio-Cop.

3rd Logo (October 21, 2011)

Visuals: On a black background, twelve rainbow-colored light beams shoot in from various directions of the screen into the center, creating a large spark that dies down when a thickly layered "6" is quickly drawn in by a bright, glowing path. The light dims to show the number is yellow with inner, thin layered white outlining and an orange outer glow. Below, "ASTR-TV" zooms out while leaving a dissolving trail and changes colors from gold to orange once it stops. Then, the logo as a whole shines through a wiping effect, which happens again before the end.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: Tape hissing is heard throughout. A quick zap plays for each beam shooting in, followed a rising synthesized whoosh, descending warbling scale, and three-note Moog synthesized jingle.

Availability: The logo is seen on Father's Day.

4th Logo (November 27, 2012-September 8, 2015)

Visuals: This is a redone version of the 1st logo, featuring sleeker animation, a faster pace, and all logo elements glowing while they form.

Variant: On Breaking Santa, the logo is snowing.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: The opening theme of the film.

Availability: The logo is seen on Breaking Santa and The Editor.

5th Logo (September 21, 2018)

Visuals: On a black background, two revolvers crossed at the barrel are on top of "An ASTRON SIX Presentation" in a stacked format and thin serif font. "COPYRIGHT MMXVIII", "A PRODUCTION OF KENORA ON", and "FILMED IN CANADA" are placed on the bottom center, left, and right portions within the curvy lined rectangular border (similar to the D. W. Griffith Corporation logo), which also cross paths with two copies of "Astron", in a cursive font, on the upper left and right as well as a horizontal rectangular box containing the "A" symbol from before.

Technique: 2D computer animation in the style of an old film.

Audio: The opening theme of the film.

Availability: The logo is seen on Chowboys: An American Folktale.
