Background

Compagnia Edizioni Internazionali Artistiche Distribuzione, otherwise abbreviated as CEIAD, was an Italian film distribution company founded in 1939. The company is closely tied to Columbia Pictures Italia, which later took the name Columbia TriStar Films Italia, and then Sony Pictures Entertainment Italia. By 1985, the company ceased its distribution operations.

1st Logo (November 10, 1947-1950)

Visuals: Against a sky background, the top of a Roman temple displaying a carved "MAGIS MAGISQUE" on the visible sides of the temple, the large letters "CEIAD" standing above the temple positioned and angled towards the right side, and a ferocious eagle gripping onto the right stem of the letter "A" with its wings spread out. After a few seconds, an italicized "presenta" in serif fades in front of the temple. The overall concept of the logo is similar to the EIA logo.

Variants:

  • On L'amore, the word "PRESENTA" is capitalized, arched, sans serif, and in 3D.
  • On Ancora Insieme, the word "EDIZIONE" arching upwards is shown on the top part of the screen while "DISTRIBUZIONE" arching downwards is shown on the bottom, both having a similar typeface to the one in the previous variant.

Technique: A painting filmed by a camera and chroma-keyed text.

Audio: The opening theme of the film.

Audio Variant: A held organ note was used in L'amore.

Availability: It is known to have appeared on Preludio d'amore, L'amore, La Terra Trema, and a TeleGenova airing of the 1944 American film Together Again known as Ancora Insieme. It may also have been seen in other films the company had distributed.

2nd Logo (December 6, 1985-March 21, 1986)

Visuals: The logo starts with a static starfield, where a cyan nebula appears on the top-center part of the screen, followed by a red nebula appearing from the bottom-left corner of the screen and travelling towards the cyan nebula, where they both disappear upon contact, resulting in a "CEIAD" in a bold serif typeface appearing from the top and zooming to the center, leaving a cyan trail. Once done and close to the camera and the cyan trail disappears, a cyan "distribuzione" appears from the bottom and zooms until it sits below the former word. Before the "distribuzione" stops zooming, two cyan sparks appear and move from left to right, ending with an additional white spark performing the same actions, turning the "distribuzione" to a lighter shade of cyan.

Technique: Backlit cel animation.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen in A me mi piace, Matrimonio con vizietto and Tutta colpa del paradiso.
