Background

Discovery Kids was launched in 1996. It was rebranded into The Hub in 2010.



1st Logo (1997-2000)


Visuals: On a black background, there is a green planet earth seen with a purple circle outside of it and a ring with an orange globe on it flying by. On the circle, the word "Discovery" in the Aurora Bold Condensed font is seen on the top and the word "KIDS" in orange-yellow is also seen on the bottom and the logo zooms out with a copyright notice is shown at the bottom.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The same music as the Discovery Channel Productions logo from 1997.

Availability: It was seen on Mega Movie Magic and the first two seasons of Real Kids, Real Adventures.

2nd Logo (May 6, 2000-2001)


Visuals: On a sky background, thereis the Discovery Kids logo from the first logo with an orange planet earth from the first logo orbiting in front of the logo. The URL "discoverykids.com" appears underneath the logo.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: None.

Availability: It was seen on season 3 of Real Kids, Real Adventures.

3rd Logo (October 25-31, 2001)


Visuals: On a black background, there is the CGI circle. It quickly turns around to reveal itself as the Discovery Kids logo which consists of the planet earth in a circle. In front of it is the words "Discovery" in an Aurora Bold Condensed font and "KIDS" in orange-yellow. There's an orange earth orbiting in front of the logo. The logo rotates to the left as a copyright notice appears below.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The ending theme of the show.

Availability: Seen on the first half of Truth or Scare when it was last seen on The Hub (now Discovery Family).

4th Logo (September 14, 2002-October 10, 2010)


Visuals: On a fuchsia or purple background, there is a wordless Discovery Kids logo from before. Then, the white word "Discovery" starts appearing letter-by-letter, followed by the word "KIDS" doing the same thing. While this is happening, orange rings are emitting from the logo, and there's a CGI rocket flying around the logo with a trail following it. The rocket disappears while the trail becomes a ring, dropping an orange earth planet with the continents being green. The ring bumps into the logo, causing it to zoom forward and then back.

Trivia: This logo was designed by Lambie-Nairn and appears as an ident for both the block on NBC (a bite is taken to reveal a different background with the NBC logo) and the Discovery Kids digital channel itself.

Variants:

  • On Bigfoot Presents: Meteor and the Mighty Monster Trucks, the text "Produced by Meteor the Monster Truck Company, LLC for" is seen above the logo.
  • On season 2 of The Save-Ums!, the text "A Decode Entertainment Inc. Production in Association with Discovery Kids" is seen above the logo.
  • A still version exists.
  • Two widescreen versions exist:
    • In the first one, the background is seen in 16:9;however, the animation (excluding one of the rings seen at the beginning) is still presented in 4:3.
    • The other one is a true 16:9 widescreen version.

Audio: None, or the ending theme of the show.

Audio Variants:

  • On Hip Hop Harry, various children exclaim "I LOVE TO LEARN!!!".
  • On promos for Discovery Kids on NBC during the 2002-03 season, an announcer states "Discovery Kids on NBC, every Saturday morning."

Availability:

  • It was seen after shows that aired on the channel like the second and final season of ToddWorld, Time Warp Trio, and Bigfoot Presents: Meteor and the Mighty Monster Trucks, both of which preserved this logo when reran on Qubo (though it isn't preserved on the Christian edition of the latter). However, most other shows that used it don't air on TV anymore.
  • It was preserved on on-demand prints of pre-Hub shows on-demand when the network became The Hub (as did airings of Grossology on said network) before the network changed its name to Discovery Family.
  • Despite this, it can still be seen on Kabillion prints of shows such as Growing Up Creepie and the second and final season of ToddWorld, as aforementioned.
  • Also intact on DVDs of their shows.
  • The 16:9 variant can be seen on The Future is Wild on Tubi TV.
  • This was also retained on Discovery Family airings (but not on the on-demand prints) of Kenny the Shark which aired every year during Discovery's Shark Week event until August 2022.
  • This logo was preserved on Peep and the Big Wide World airings on PBS Kids up until 2018, when the logo was removed for most episodes, (the show itself was eventually removed from PBS Kids in December 2021), but the logo can be seen on some DVD releases of the aforementioned show.
