Background
Drafthouse Films is an Austin-based film distribution company founded in 2010 by Tim League. In March 2022, Giant Pictures acquired the company.
1st Logo (March 16-December 11, 2012, September 30, 2022-)
Visuals: The screen pans over a white glowing grided surface on a black background from a front profile to near top angle, mostly facing the stars zooming in the sky. Then, a vertical white light path wipes in "Drafthouse", in a glowing signature font, while "FILMS", with light shaded 3D depth and a chrome texture, trails upwards and places itself below the right portion of said word. The screen zooms towards the text before it shines and flips and zooms away.
Technique: 2D computer animation.
Audio: It begins with a set of descending synthesized zaps. Later, a five note descending Moog synthesized jingle is performed alongside mechanical beeping in the background.
Availability: The logo was first seen on The LP and 2012 home media prints of a handful of 80's movies such as Miami Connection. It later resurfaced in American prints of Nr. 10, Masking Threshold, and The YouTube Effect.
2nd Logo (March 8, 2013-October 31, 2017)
Visuals: "DRAFTHOUSE" is on top of "FILMS", which is in between three layered horizontal lines, with diagonally slashed outer ends and a longer length for the next bar on top, on both sides.
Technique: Zooming effects.
Audio: None.
Availability: The logo is seen on American prints of the ABC's of Death movies as well as The Act of Killing, The Keeping Room, A Field in England, among other films from this period.
