Background

Malayan Film Unit was founded by Mublin Sheppard on April 1, 1946 in Jalan Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. The company was notable for producing multiple documentary films about the country it is based in. It was later renamed to Filem Negara Malaysia on November 22, 1963.

Logo (November 1952-September 13, 1963)

Visuals: There is an illustration of a jumping Malayan tiger on a blue background. The stacked text "MALAYAN FILM UNIT" with red sides and "PRESENTS" under it fades in as the tiger fades away.

Variants:

For the logo's debut, the text is in a Serif font, and the tiger is intact. "presents" is also italicized.
A B&W variation is more commonly used, where the background is slightly different.
The illustration of the Malayan tiger may vary, depending on the film.
On some films, "PRESENTS" is translated to "MEMPERSEMBAHKAN".
On Merdeka for Malaya, "PRESENTS" is omitted, and the company name is in a different font.
On Malaya, the text is replaced with "Presenting" in cursive.
On Safar, the background just consists of a blue light, which fades away as a less 3D version of the text with black sides fades in.

Technique: Chroma key effects.

Audio: A fifteen-note bombastic fanfare with faint drumrolls at the end.

Availability: Its earliest known appearance was on The Knife, and made an appearance on all of the company's later films and documentaries up to Milestones To Malaysia.
