Background

Funnybone Interactive was a software developer aimed at kids, formed as "The Cute Company" in 1985. It was renamed to its then-current name in the early 1990s, and was acquired by Davidson & Associates in 1995; the next year it became a part of the CUC Software family, before folding into Davidson in 1997.

Logo (1996-1997)

Visuals: On a white background, a cartoony bone in a off-white color is seen laying on the ground, as a cartoon dog vaguely resembling a Dalmatian walks in from the distance, whistling. As he walks, he peeks at the bone and stops whistling to look at it, before walking around to stand over top of it, confused. He peeks over the bone, looks at the screen as he smiles with his tongue out, then an open grin, and then suddenly bites down on thin air, becoming dazed and starts to have a laughing fit. He starts to act more maniacal, pointing at the bone as well, and then slams down onto his gut on the floor, slamming his fists in a fit of laughter. As he does this, he picks up the bone and then tosses it into the air, where it spins around and zooms in slowly, and then the Funnybone logo rises up and slams into the bone, causing it to become a part of the logo. The logo features the laughing dog inside a sky blue rectangle, holding the bone up on one finger as the rectangle has a grungy black border. Underneath the dog, the text "FUNNYBONE" can be seen in an uneven font with also a grungy black border, and "i n t e r a c t i v e" can also be seen below it.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: A rather upbeat, cartoony tune. Cartoonish sounds can also be heard throughout the logo corresponding to the actions onscreen, with the dog laughing like Stimpy from The Ren & Stimpy Show. At the end, the tune starts to get more bombastic before it ends in a crash sound followed by a synth note. The dog can also be heard calming down at the end.

Availability: Appeared on some children-oriented CD-ROMs of the time, such as Eat My Dust, Stay Tooned!, and Animaniacs Game Pack.
