Background

In 1995, Konami of America made its foray into the sports market when the company launched the Konami XXL Sports Series brand to sell sports games.

Logo (April 4, 1996-May 1999)

Visuals: Over a black background is the white text "KONAMI" in white with black and white outlines surrounding it. Under it is a white oval with the black text "XXL", and under the oval is the text "SPORTS SERIES" in a sports font.

Variants:

  • Sometimes, the colors are inverted.
  • On Bottom of the 9th for the Nintendo 64, the logo on a white border.
  • Sometimes, the "KONAMI" text is black.
  • An animated variant exists where the logo swings up from the bottom of the screen. This can be seen on NBA in the Zone '98 for the Nintendo 64.

Technique: A still, computerized graphic.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on most Konami sports games from the era in the US from 1996 to 1999, like entries in the NBA in the Zone, International Superstar Soccer and Bottom of the 9th franchises. Some games don't have the logo, however.
