Background

This was a French company founded as Loriciels SA in 1983. Under financial troubles, the company was closed in 1992. The remains were resurrected as Virtual Studio, also closed later in 90's. Loriciel was a prolific publisher, having published about 150 games during its lifespan. Their first logo with the playing kitten was never used fullscreen and - in the corners of earliest games.

Logo (1989-1993)

Visuals: On a black background, a box fades in, with a large portion of it being white and the other being dark grey, a red ball near the middle of the sections, and a white border. As it fades in, an abstract blue cat runs along, trailing purple copies of its movements. When it passes the box, the grey section turns light blue, revealing the black text "L O R i C I E L", with the ball acting as the dot for the first "i". The cat's trails disappear, revealing a black copy that is about to land. The text "PRESENTS" fades in below.

Variants:

  • The copyright text can sometimes be seen under the logo.
  • On Tennis Cup II for Amiga, the blue color was replaced with purple, the "PRESENTS" text is more spaced out, and the logo appears with a wipe effect.
  • On Jim Power for the Amiga, the logo was redone in higher resolution, gained a jagged border, and "PRESENTS" is in a bold, silver font with an underline.

Technique: Sprite-based animation.

Audio: None or the opening theme to the game.

Availability: Only a handful of games use the animated logo, such as Tennis Cup, Jim Power in Mutant Planet, and Disc for the Amiga. Other times, it will appear still or in-credit.
