Background

Saurus was a subsidiary of SNK founded in 1994, working as a 2nd-party developer for both SNK's own consoles as well as for others like the PS1 later on. It was shut down in 2000 due to SNK's declining profits.

Logo (December 21, 1994-February 3, 1999)

Visuals: On a black or white background, a cyan triangle border is seen with a thick bottom edge, and a pair of abstract sauropods inside of it. In the bottom edge, "SAURUS" is seen in a cut-out, abstract font.

Variants:

  • Sometimes, the logo is filled and bordered with white.
  • The size of the logo differs from game to game.
  • Several games had animated variants:
    • Pleasure Goal: 5 on 5 Mini Soccer: The logo zooms out as a 3D object on a white background.
    • Ragnagard (Arcade): The Saurus logo, now in silver with red letters and gold trim, slides in from the right, with a gold System Vision logo sliding in from the left, and the 2 cross paths with each other.
    • Irritating Stick: The logo zooms out while spinning to the right, stopping as it settles a comfortable distance from the screen.

Technique: Depends on the game, but usually none.

Audio: Usually none, but some games have music.

  • Irritating Stick: A low-pitched, synth drone with the spacy marimba playing the ascending Shepard tone. This is the Korg 01/W preset "DawnOfTime".
  • Pleasure Goal: 5 on 5 Mini Soccer: A rising whoosh combined with an ethereal synth choir, ending with chimes and a synth drone.

Availability: Seen on various games developed by Saurus, starting with the Super Famicom port of Art of Fighting 2.

  • Seen on the Super Famicom port of World Heroes 2, Ironclad, the Saturn port of Ragnagard, Stakes Winner 2, as well as the games listed.
  • Only an in-credit appearance is seen on the titles of Stakes Winner, Shock Troopers, and Shock Troopers: 2nd Squad.
  • Does not appear on Quiz King of Fighters, the SNES port of World Heroes 2, The Irritating Maze, nor any of their Neo Geo Pocket titles.
