Background

The Chihiro (チヒロ) is an arcade system produced by Sega and Microsoft based on the Xbox home video game console, and it was named after the protagonist of Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away movie. It was the second such partnership, with Sega also siding with Namco and Nintendo with the Nintendo GameCube-powered Triforce system.

The House of the Dead III was the first game to launch for the platform in late 2002.

Logo (2002-2005)

Visuals: On a white/gray gradient background, the word "Chihiro", with a circular underline coming out of the stretched second "h", fades in slowly. It then flashes as it stops animating. Below is the loading status bar of the game, in a dark transparent rectangle with yellow italic text.

Trivia: Both this and the Triforce startups feature a nearly identical design layout. Aside from the logos, the pattern used on the gradients is the other main difference between the both.

Variant: A still variant exists. However, the logo is in the middle center of the background.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: A peaceful eight-note synth tune.

Audio Variant: The still version is silent.

Availability:

  • It is seen when a Chihiro board is turned on.
  • The still version can only be found on the first two Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune games only if the machine is successfully booted up. It mostly precedes the Namco and Polygon Magic logos, before it cuts into the Sofdec and ADX logos. It is never shown afterwards alongside the other logos, as the attract mode demo just continues through its usual loop.
