Background

Tivola is a German-based CD-ROM company located in New York, London and Berlin, generally focused on children's titles on PC and Mac. Their titles are intended by them to "stimulate a child's curiosity, while encouraging smart play."

1st Logo (1995-2005)

Visuals: On a light orange paper background with a rough red patch below it, there is a marching band with three drummers, two fluters and a dog with a book on it's back in shadow black walking across the screen. The hats and book fly upwards and morph into the Tivola logo, having the text "Tivola" in black but with a red "T" and a red spiral replacing the "o", with the "PUBLISHING" text appearing below.

Later Variant: Starting in 1997, "Electronic Publishing" appears beneath the logo.

Variant: There is a variant where the marching band is replaced with some fancily dressed people. Their hats fly off their heads and form the Tivola logo.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: A marching band tune with drums and flutes.

Audio Variant: Sometimes, a synthesized remix of the original tune is heard instead.

Availability: Can be seen on games from the company such as Where's The Blanket Charlie Brown? (known as Linus in Not! in German).

2nd Logo (2005-2008)

Visuals: On a yellow background, "Tiv la" appears one by one in a more standard-looking font and a brighter red for the "T", and as they finish appearing, the red spiral zooms out as a URL appears below the text and said text disappears one by one. Eventually, the spiral disappears, and the text now appears in sync with the tune, first with "Ti", then "Tivo", and finally "Tivola". As the text finishes, the spiral starts rotating and zooms up to take over the entire screen, leaving the text to fade out.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: A shorter, more funky synth version of the music from the previous logo.

Availability: Probably seen on games from the time, such as Wickie und die starken Männer - Ein schlauer Plan.

3rd Logo (2008-2016)

Visuals: The logo is a black word "Tivola" with "o" replaced with a simplified version of the orange spiral.

Variants:

  • A still version exists.
  • A URL sometimes can be seen below.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: None.

Availability: Mostly seen on games for the Nintendo DS platform, such as Dragon Master. It also appeared on World Party Games for Wii.
