Background

Alibi originally launched in November 1997 as UK Arena, one of the four channels of the UKTV network at the time. Because it broadcasted mostly drama series, its name was changed in March 2000 to UK Drama. It was then renamed UKTV Drama in March 2004, and then to Alibi in November 2008 when the UKTV network started to drop categorical names from the channels.

UK Arena/Drama

1st Logo (November 1, 1997-May 7, 2000)

Logo: A hexagonal star is formed by either a flashing neon effect, a spinning circle or spirals. The UK Arena/UK Dráma (after 2000) logo fades in at the bottom.

FX/SFX: The "Neon Star" variant consists of the star flashing and spinning, the "Circle Star" consists of a circular trail going around the star, and the "Spiral Star" are lines making spirals around each end of the star. This was all done by Lambie-Nairn.

Music/Sounds: A 3 note leitmotif that was accompanied by ambient synth sounds.

Availability: Extinct on TV.

2nd Logo (May 7, 2000-March 8, 2004)

Logo: Three people fade into the screen, one lit in red, another lit in blue, and another lit in green. They all start to strike drums, with water splashing off them on each hit. The camera cuts to close ups of the water flying off the drums, and the drums being hit, mostly in the space of a second.

FX/SFX: All live action, which was done by Lambie-Nairn.

Music/Sounds: Ambient sounds accompanied by the sounds of the 3 drums.

Availability: Extinct on TV.

UKTV Drama

(March 8, 2004-October 7, 2008)

Logo: We see close-up shots of a 3D shape rotating, with the words "UKtv DRAMA" fading in later.

FX/SFX: The cube rotating.

Music/Sounds: TBA.

Availability: Extinct on TV.

Alibi

1st Logo (October 7, 2008-July 3, 2015)

Logo: On the Bullet through glass variant, we see a wall of glass, then a bullet goes through the wall and smashes the glass. Through it, a bunch of sentences fall out to the ground, then it fades to another glass wall. The same thing happens but there is a white circle with the word "alibi" inside it, which stands still in its position.

Variant: On the crime scene variant, we see sentences joining together to create the shape of a figure and once it's done, a red circle with the word "alibi" inside it drips in. In front of these, there is a line with the words "CRIME SCENE DO NOT CROSS" on it.

FX/SFX: The alibi circle paint dripping in, the sentences falling on the floor.

Music/Sounds: TBA.

Availability: Extinct.

2nd Logo (July 3, 2015-)

Logo: On all four idents, we see shots of red strings going all over through the area that they are in. When it switches to a perfect shot of this, the Alibi logo gets drawn on the middle of the screen with the circle and the letters first, then the circle is filled with red and the dot in the last "i" becomes black.

FX/SFX: The circle forming.

Music/Sounds: TBA.

Availability: Current.
