Background

Alibi originally launched in November 1997 as UK Arena, one of the four channels of the UKTV network at the time. Because it broadcasted mostly drama series, its name was changed in March 2000 to UK Drama. It was then renamed to UKTV Drama in March 2004, and then to Alibi in October 2008 when the UKTV network started to drop categorical names from its channels. With this, the channel refocused its programming to mostly crime-oriented dramas.

1st Logo (October 7, 2008-July 3, 2015)

Logo: On the Bullet through glass variant, we see a wall of glass, then a bullet goes through the wall and smashes the glass. Through it, a bunch of sentences fall out to the ground, then it fades to another glass wall. The same thing happens but there is a white circle with the word "alibi" inside it, which stands still in its position.

Variant: On the Crime scene variant, we see sentences joining together to create the shape of a figure and once it's done, a red circle with the word "alibi" inside it drips in. In front of these, there is a line with the words "CRIME SCENE DO NOT CROSS" on it.

Technique: Realistic CG animation. Directed by Sandra Goddard at Red Bee Media.

Music/Sounds: Various sounds corresponding to the on-screen actions, followed by a woman whispering "Alibi". Composed by Adelphoi Music.

Availability: Extinct.

2nd Logo (July 3, 2015-)

Logo: On all four idents, we see shots of red strings going all over through the area that they are in. When it switches to a perfect shot of this, the Alibi logo gets drawn on the middle of the screen with the circle and the letters first, then the circle is filled with red and the dot in the last "i" becomes black.

Technique: 2D animation superimposed over live-action footage.

Music/Sounds: Over the background noise, four string notes are heard, followed by a 4/4 string arrangement with descending clicking noises as the logo is formed.

Availability: Current.
