Background
Azerbaijan Television, or AzTV (formerly Baku Television Studio), is the national television channel of Azerbaijan, headquartered in Baku. The channel was founded in the Azerbaijani SSR on February 1956.
1st ID (1991-1996)
Visuals: A small white 8-pointed star moves from the top right corner to the center of the screen, blinking as it does so. A white crescent appears on the left side of the star, then the colors of the Azerbaijani flag (blue, red and green in that order) wipe in from the left, leaving a gap between each bar and forming an upward fold on the right side of the crescent and star. Once the flag is formed, the star stops flashing and a TV tower rises on the left. Then, "AzTV" in gold zooms out from the left, placing itself underneath the right side of the flag.
Technique: 2D computer animation.
Audio: A dramatic synth fanfare.
2nd ID (1996-1999)
Visuals: Against a grainy dark gray background with six diagonal lines is the golden letters "Aztv", with the "z" being extended and "tv" placed atop the "z". On the right of it is a large, blue "1".
Technique: A still graphic.
Audio: None.
3rd ID (1999-2018)
Visuals: The sequence starts with a light blue cloth waving in front of a red cloth. The camera zooms out to reveal a green cloth behind the red cloth as the blue one flies away to the left. The red cloth continues to wave before it flies to the right and a white background is revealed behind the green cloth. The green cloth flies away to the left whilst simultaneously fading out to reveal the station's logo in gold and "AZƏRBAYCAN TELEVIZIYASI" below the logo. A ribbon in the colors of the Azerbaijani flag flies around the logo from the left before settling itself below the text, while the URL fades in at the bottom.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: An uplifting piano tune.
4th ID (2003-2006)
Visuals: Set in a room with various images and a green floor, there appears to be a gold globe with a teal light atop. In front of it is the transparent company logo, which slowly turns to the left whilst the camera pans to the right side of the room. The logo disappears and the company logo zooms in along with AZƏRBAYCAN TELEVİZİYASI in teal zooming out below.
Variant: There exists a Christmas/New Year's variant that aired in December 2005 to the end of January 2006: Set in a room with a gold floor and three spotlights (one magenta, one blue and one yellow with snow falling, the AzTV logo fades in via a wave effect. Once it is in full view, a man dressed as Santa Claus walks behind the logo and leans over the top of the z. Below, "REKLAM" in white wipes in from left to right and the station telephone and FAX numbers appear on the right side of the text.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: A calm piano tune.
Audio Variant: The Christmas/New Year's variant features a person whistling a portion of Jingle Bells, along with a synthesized rendition of the tune.
5th ID (2005-2009)
Visuals: Set in a dimly lit room with a blue floor and gray walls is the company logo with a translucent glassy appearance. Behind it is a film camera surrounded by two spinning rings. For the first six seconds, the sequence shows various spliced clips of the camera zooming out from the logo and turning to the right, with some shots being sped up or reversed. After the six seconds has passed, the company name flashes on the bottom of the screen shortly before the camera stops moving.
Variants: Starting in 2006, the channel would introduce seasonal variants. Each ident shows the logo appearing at the center of the screen piece by piece. A live-action shot is displayed within the logo whilst a light blue glow is emitted. The company name wipes in below the logo from the left, just as the URL "www.aztv.az" fades in at the bottom.
- So far, the Spring and Autumn idents are known to exist. The latter is set in a forest with autumn leaves hanging on the trees and on the ground, whereas the former shows a spring skyline of a city.
Technique: CGI animation. 2D computer animation overlaying live-action footage for the seasonal idents.
Audio: A disco-style Europop tune.
Audio variant: The seasonal idents utilize a peaceful flute jingle.
6th ID (2009-2013)
Visuals: This logo had various different idents, all revolving around a computer-generated Azerbaijani landmark being built in detail with varying perspectives:
- Akhundov Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre: This ident is set against a blue background. As the building is being constructed, a blue-toned copy of what is happening in the foreground is seen in the background. The company name and URL are seen at the bottom of the screen throughout the ident and the name of the structure does not appear.
- Ateshgah: The logo is set against a blue background with light blue and white rectangles and squares moving horizontally. Once the building is complete, the top and bottom parts of the screen fade to light gray "ATƏŞGAH" zooms in at the top with the company name zooming in at the bottom.
- Heyder Eliyev Sarayi: This ident is set over a duller shade of blue and the company name persists at the bottom as with the URL below. The landmark name does not zoom in above but is visible on the building.
- Mardakan Castle: Set over a similar background as "Ateshgah" and "Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory", the structure is shown being built with square outlines appearing over the newly constructed areas. The text "MƏRDƏKAN QALASI" appears letter-by-letter in a randomized order before disappearing in the same fashion as "XVI-CI ƏSRDƏ UCALDILIB" appears and disappears in a different area via the same effect. Once the castle is constructed, a screen with the stacked text "MƏRDƏKAN QALASI" is seen on the right as the top and bottom parts of the screen fade to light gray and the names of the landmark and television station zoom in at the top and bottom, respectively.
- Nizami Museum of Azerbaijani Architecture: This ident is set over a similar background as "Heyder Eliyev Sarayi". As with said ident and "Akhundov Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre", the company name and URL persist on the bottom of the screen and the structure name is not present. Additionally, various white squares and seen briefly flashing over the structure and only the front of the building is shown for the finished product.
- Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory: Just like with Atǝşgah, the ident is set on a blue background with light blue and white rectangles and the top and bottom fading to light gray in the finished product. The text "Şamaxı Astrofizika Rəsədxanası" also zooms in in their respective spaces, albeit the landmark name is not stylized in caps.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: It all depends on the ident:
- Akhundov Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre: A classical piece consisting of a piano and violin.
- Ateshgah: None.
- Heyder Eliyev Sarayi: A classical piano and violin tune.
- Mardakan Castle: None.
- Nizami Museum of Azerbaijani Architecture: A combination of traditional Azerbaijani music and upbeat pop tune.
- Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory: A fast-paced synth piece.
7th ID (2013-2015)
Visuals: A spotlight is seen shining at the center. A gold line is seen drawing itself 8 waves that gradually decrease in size before it draws in a cityscape followed by seven more waves and three pumping oil rigs. It then draws the Ateshgah and another landmark before drawing another cityscape with a TV tower emitting signals, all whilst various lights shine across the outlines. A green and red streak flies from the right and spins around the company logo as it is being formed. The colors of the bars fill themselves in whilst the letters remain unfilled and the company name fades in at the bottom.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: A futuristic-sounding reverbed synth theme.
8th ID (2015-2019)
Visuals: The visuals consists of three closeup shots of the AzTV logo, which is placed in front of a shaped silver plate with a stylized rim. Amongst the logo is a red lens flare shining on the logo, as well as a vast range of Azerbaijani words and red, green and blue ribbons flying, waving and wrapping around it. After the third shot, the logo flies from the left and places itself in the center, with the aforementioned ribbons wrapping around the logo and flying offscreen and the Azerbaijani flag (without the star and crescent) flying from behind to the bottom front before disappearing. The company name fades in below.
Variant: There would be a variant which preceded a movie. There, the camera pans towards a golden wand with a ruby at the base of the circle and six emeralds surrounding said circle. Inside that is a screen playing a movie before the wand would fly away. A golden rectangle reminiscent of a carpet flies from the left side of the screen, leaving behind a trail. It flies towards - with a screen in front of it playing two movies, then it cuts to a shot of the carpet flying towards a silver lamp, circling around it before flying to a gold castle with a rainbow behind it. Once the castle is in full view, the carpet flies to the back of it. The company logo, also in gold and with a black outline, is seen in front of the castle.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: An uplifting piano piece.
Audio Variant: The movie variant uses a cinematic orchestral fanfare.
9th ID (August 19, 2019-September 4, 2022)
Visuals: The camera pans against a shiny dark gray environment full of triangular indents and holes. A translucent teal ribbon is shown flying from the top left of the screen to the bottom right corner as "AZƏRBAYCAN" fades in from left to right, with multiple thin white lines crossing over. Next to it is a light blue sideways triangle with "TV" in it.
Variant: There is a Christmas/New Years variant of the ID that aired in 2019-January 2020. It consists of the camera panning towards an ice landscape with various triangles across the ground and a large bauble with small red, blue, green and yellow triangles arranged in a square pattern. As the camera continues to pan towards the right, a light blue triangular box is shown, inside it is five baubles with the same pattern as that of the one shown before and next to it are two more of said baubles. Another one of the baubles places itself into the box as the camera zooms out. Then, several ice blue triangles and hexagons zoom out and rotate, followed by the company logo with the triangle appearing icy and having two icicles hanging off it and 2020 in blue placed beneath the logo.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: An ambient tune with a synth bell and whooshes.
Audio Variant: The Christmas ID has a more festive tune consisting of various bells and wind blowing, concluding with a deep whoosh.
10th ID (September 5, 2022-)
Visuals: Against a shiny dark gray background with two transparent triangles on the left and right sides, four layered chevrons (the top one teal and the other three blue slide in opposite directions to form a diamond-shaped hole in the center. Then, a blue triangle with "TV" in it flies from the left 3rd chevron as "AZƏRBAYCAN" zooms in behind it, letter by letter.
Variant: There are two Christmas IDs:
- The first ID shows snow falling and an orange star zooming towards the screen, leaving behind a crimson trail. Once the star reaches the screen, the camera cuts to the TV triangle, now with an icy appearance (a la the previous Christmas ID). The star circles around the triangle before flying offscreen to the left, with the triangle zooming out and moving towards the right. "AZƏRBAYCAN" zooms in its respective position, with said text having a yellow glow behind it. Two stars fly from behind the text, zooming towards the screen and flying off to either side.
- The second ident shows a camera zooming out of various blue snowflakes before the TV triangle, this time in its normal form, rapidly zooms from the left. The camera turns and the triangle zooms out and spins before placing itself next to "AZƏRBAYCAN", this time the text appearing icy. The triangle gradually becomes more icy as it moves closer to the text. The background fades into an ice background and three layered chevrons (also with an icy appearance) slide in from either side of the screen, creating the same diamond shape in the center as shown in the generic ident.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: A quiet ambient tune with a piano note.
Audio Variants:
- The first Christmas variant starts with light twinkling sounds accompanying the flying star, followed by an uplifting orchestral festive jingle, accompanied with a whoosh as "AZƏRBAYCAN" appears.
- The second Christmas variant uses a more powerful orchestral festive fanfare which is also accompanied with light wind blowing.
