Background

Canal+ Cinéma is a premium channel part of Canal+'s offerings, launched in 1996 as Canal+ Jaune before taking on its current name in 2003. As the name suggests, Canal+ Cinéma focuses on showcasing films, with cinema-oriented shows here and there such as Le Cercle. It is Canal+'s very first fully cinema-oriented channel, though the main channel also focuses on showcasing movies from time to time, with Canal+ Grand Ecran as the second, which launched in 2022. As part of a rebranding across all channels, Canal+ Cinéma is planned to be renamed Canal+ Cinéma(s), with an s in-between parentheses, in September 2023.

Canal+ Jaune

(1996-2003)

Logo: Same as the 3rd Canal+ logo, but this time there is a yellow border around it.

Variant: There is a closedown variant similar to the third one, but a few small differences are present. After the horizontal black stripe it cuts to a blue background.

Technique: Same as the 3rd Canal+ logo,

Music/Sounds: Same as the 3rd Canal+ logo.

Canal+ Cinéma

1st Logo (2003-2009)

Logo: We see a collection of four rectangles, two at the top and two at the bottom. The ones at the bottom move at the top and the ones at the top move to the bottom. The same animation then gets is repeated but this time horizontally, after which all four quickly fall in reverse while the Canal+ logo is embedded in the centre. Then the animation from the start gets repeated multiple times.

Variant: In a later variant there are two rectangles, one from the left and one from the right, that move in a manner similar to the logo while a blue rectangle flashes in the middle of the screen. Sometime later we cut to the rectangles getting transformed from place to place.

Technique: 2D animation.

Music/Sounds: A synth theme with clocks.

2nd Logo (2009-)

Logo: We see light flashing on 4 separate screens. On the center of the screen the + is embedded on all 4 corners while the label Cinema is behind it.

Technique: The flashing.

Music/Sounds: The start of a fanfare.
