Background
Dentsu is a Japanese international advertising and public relations joint stock company headquartered in Tokyo. It is currently the largest advertising agency in Japan and the fifth largest advertising agency network in the world in terms of worldwide revenues. Dentsu does business with almost every major institution in Japan, accounting for about 28 percent of the national advertising budget. Its connections to the government are so tight that The New York Times referred to it as "the unofficial communications department of the governing Liberal Democratic Party", and it has also been likened to the CIA on account of its reach.
Animated Logos
1st Logo (Mid/Late 1980s-Early 1990s?)
Visuals: On a black background, a bright silver pointed "D" zooms back, settling into place. Shades of reflecting rainbows from two faint copies of the same letter fade in and merge into a straight line in which flashes, then the "D" itself afterwards. "DENTSU" either fades or flashes in underneath it.
Technique: Backlit cel animation.
Audio: A 4-note synth string.
Availability: Appears on VHS/Laserdisc releases of certain movies, such as Dentsu Environment Video Series - Video Wallpaper. It's very difficult to find due to its few appearances.
2nd Logo (Mid 1990s-Late 1999)
Visuals: Against a grainy green surface is the main logo - the rounded "CED" arranged together by stack diagonally from the upper-left to the lower-right, with three sets of words "OMMUNICATIONS", "XCELLENCE" and "ENTSU", placed on each corresponding letter - settled in. There's a light passing through the surface and logo, casting a drop shadow.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: None.
Availability: Shown on VHS and Laserdisc releases of the Super Mobile Legend DinaGiga volumes 1-2. It was also used in an advertisement in 1995.
3rd Logo (2008?-)
Visuals: On a gray background, white strings made out of ripples appear, which decrease to form the word "dentsu".
Technique: Computer animation.
Audio: None.
Availability: Seen on a majority of movies and anime it has appeared on, such as Close Knit and While the Women are Sleeping.
In-Credit Logos
Logo (May 1, 2003-)
Visuals: There is the 2001 Dentsu wordmark on a superimposed font.
Technique: Superimposed animation.
Audio: The opening/ending theme of the show.
Availability: Seen on a majority of Dentsu-affiliated anime and series it has appeared on starting with the ADV Films dub of Final Fantasy: Unlimited.
