Background
Televisi Republik Indonesia (or often abbreviated as "TVRI") is a public television network and the first one in Indonesia, launched in August 24, 1962 as the sole national television channel. It wasn't until 1989 when a privately-funded television station named Rajawali Citra Televisi Indonesia (RCTI) was launched, immediately putting TVRI in the competition. Its national headquarters is in Gelora, Central Jakarta. TVRI is currently broadcasting by running 3 national television channels and 34 regional television stations, and is supported by 361 transmission stations (including 129 digital transmission stations) throughout Indonesia.
