Background

Eesti Televisioon is an Estonian free-to-air public broadcasting television channel originally launched on 19th July 1955. It is the first and main television channel in Estonia.

1st ID (1981-1991)

Visuals: The sequence starts with live-action blue-tinted footage of a shore with waves crashing, with the two halves of the red-colored 1975 ETV logo from the time (two warped right triangles parallel to one another with one warped triangle on top of its corresponding larger triangle) slowly wiping in the middle of the screen. The two halves of the footage wipe away in the same fashion to reveal footage of a wheat field, with the same logo, but in sky blue, wiping in the middle. This action repeats but with footage of a red waving flag and a yellow logo, and then a solid sky blue background with a red logo. At this point, the sequence pauses for a brief period before it zooms out to give way for "EESTI TELEVISIOON" to pop in below the logo, which is followed by "1 PROGRAMM" to appear letter by letter below the former text.

Technique: Live-action footage with cel animation.

Audio: A soothing orchestral piece slowly culminating to a majestic finish, that sounds like the Estonian SSR anthem.

2nd ID (1992-1996)

Visuals: On a clear late evening backdrop, there is a silhouette of the Tamme-Lauri oak. The tree suddenly begins to morph into a spinning reflective model of ETV's symbol (a sphere with 9 lines going through it) with layered text below it reading "ETV". The model is tilted at a °5 angle and its reflection is that of the tree that it morphed into, and it continues to spin throughout the logo.

Technique: Raytraced CGI.

Audio: A melancholic, gentle synth horn tune with a bright finish.

3rd ID (1996-2000)

Visuals: On a blue grid background with small pinholes on it, a black square containing a cyan lighthouse and a spinning metal square with white light beams shooting out of it engraved with an abstract eye symbol zooms slowly towards the camera. One of the light rays hits the camera, causing a short but bright flash. As the flash dissipates, a glass version of the ETV logo at the time (a remake of its 1965 logo) can be seen.

Variants:

  • There is also a variant used for Christmas 1998; On a dark blue background with an ocean and cyan mist visible, there is a full visible lighthouse from the 1996 ident, this time in more realistic colours (brown and grey instead of entirely cyan). The spinning cube is also tilted and spins a lot slower than before, and its light beams are blue instead of white. There is also snow visible. The camera slowly zooms into the lighthouse before the ETV logo appears as a negative colour overlay, while the camera blurs and fully zooms into the lighthouse.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A soft but majestic orchestra theme with bells, with flute also being able to be heard in the background at one point, and a soft "gong" sound effect for when the ETV symbol appears. For the Christmas 1998 variant, a more synth-based, solemn sounding version of the regular variant's mnemonic can be heard at first. This rises into a Christmas-like bell tune after it repeats twice, before eventually transforming into two long, drawn out, melancholic sounding synth horns when the ETV logo appears.
