Background

The Nigerian Television Authority or NTA is a Nigerian government-owned and partly commercial broadcaster. Originally known as Nigerian Television (NTV), it was inaugurated in 1977 with a monopoly on national television broadcasting, after a takeover of regional television stations by military governmental authorities in 1976. After declining interest from the public in government-influenced programming, it lost its monopoly over television broadcasting in Nigeria in the 1990s. The NTA runs the largest television network in Nigeria with stations in several parts of the country. It is widely viewed as the "authentic voice" of the Nigerian government.

1st Logo (1984-1991)

Logo: On a black screen, a lime-blue-dark green background with the map of Nigeria trails in. Then the letters "N", "T" and "A" with "T" being on top of the red letters fly to their position letter-by-letter to form the NTA logo. As the Nigerian map and colored background fade out, the formed NTA logo moves up to make room for the text "NIGERIAN TELEVISION AUTHORITY", and "NATIONAL PROGRAMMES" below it.

Technique: Scanimation.

Music/Sounds: A rising drone noise when the Nigerian map trails in, followed by a synthesized piece throughout the logo.

Availability: Very rare. Taken from shows produced by NTA at the time, such as The Bala Miller Show and The Village Headmaster.

2nd Logo (1986)
