Background

Panasia Films (泛亞影業) was founded in 1972 by Andrew G. Vajna. It was acquired by Golden Harvest in 1976, since then being the foreign film distribution arm of the latter. After selling Panasia, Vajna and Mario Kassar formed Carolco which, in less than four years, became one of the top three foreign sales organizations in motion pictures. Subsequently after Carolco, Vajna formed Cinergi and later C2 Pictures, of the Terminator fame.

1st Logo (1992-1993)

Visuals: On a black background, there is a "P", which is split in half. Next to it is the company name, both in Chinese and English.

Technique: A still printed image.

Audio: None.

Availability: It was seen on Sting of a Scorpion, Murders Made To Order, and On Parole 1 and 2.

2nd Logo (mid 1990s)

Visuals: On a black background with a blue glow on the top, there is a drawing of a Chinese phoenix along with "panasia" (in an abstract font) fading in over the glow. Then, the red Chinese company name along with the English company name and byline, "Panasia Films Limited (A Golden Harvest Entertainment Company)" fade in below.

Technique: Fading effects.

Audio: None.

Availability: Unknown. [Examples?]

3rd Logo (2002)

Visuals: Over a black background, there is a spark, enlightening the screen to reveal a glass version of the phoenix from before. The spark dissolves and the bird rotates to the other side, then zooming out slowly. It stops, and "panasia" fades in below. Then, Chinese characters fade in on the bottom of the screen (which soon changes to English; "Panasia Films Limited" with the Golden Harvest byline (from the previous logo) below). Light and glare move around various parts of the logo.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: None or the opening theme of the movie.

Availability: Frequently used in Hong Kong prints of UIP titles or their own releases such as Marry a Rich Man.

4th Logo (2002-2010)

Visuals: A phoenix emblem in gold fading along with "panasia" (same font as before) on the right of the bird (arched). As it zooms out, two Chinese characters appear on the left and "Panasia Films Limited" appear below them.

Trivia: This is basically the same as the 2002 Golden Harvest logo, with the GH plate being replaced with the phoenix emblem, and the company name being replaced with Panasia's.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A more triumphant and orchestral remake of the 1978 Golden Harvest theme, playing in sync with the animation.

Availability: Seen on their own releases such as Flight Back to School 3.

5th Logo (2010-mid/late 2010s)

Visuals: The camera zooms out from a steam of wheat in a golden wheat field. From this wheat, a light moves out of it and above the wheat field. The light then descends and flattens the wheat field. When the screen zooms out, the unflattened wheat is the 1978 logo, but with the bottom-left rectangle having the same height as the top-left one, turning the "G" into a square. The field then wipes out, forming a bronze CGI version of the "Rectangle G" as the logo straightens and white letters in both Cantonese and English reveal the company's name.

Trivia: This is basically the same as the current Orange Sky Golden Harvest logo, but the company name reads "Panasia Films Limited" for both the English and Chinese names.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The audio from the previous logo, with the addition of ambience sounds from the field.

Availability: Unknown. [Examples?]
