Background

Raw Thrills is an American arcade game entertainment company based in Skokie, Illinois. It was founded in 2001 by Eugene Jarvis (who is best known for producing arcade games such as Defender, Robotron: 2084, NARC, Smash TV, and the Cruis'n series), Deepak Deo, and Andrew Eloff. The company is known for producing arcade games based on licensed properties, such as the Fast and Furious arcade games, Guitar Hero Arcade, Terminator Salvation, Jurassic Park Arcade, Injustice Arcade, and Halo: Fireteam Raven, as well as original games such as Target Terror, the Big Buck Hunter series, H2Overdrive (which it's billed as a spiritual successor to the 1999 video game Hydro Thunder), Dirty Drivin', Super Bikes 2 (as well as its sequel, Super Bikes 3), Cruis'n Blast, Nitro Trucks, and Zombie Jam.

Logo (May 2004-)

Visuals: On a factory-like setting, there is a platform rising in the middle of the factory's wall with the robot arms extending to hold a circular metal plate that's being placed on the platform. Then, a trio of robotic arms appeared on the screen as they engrave the words "RAW THRILLS" in reverse. Then, the words were painted and stamped onto the wall (similar to how a letterpress works, except that it is stamped to a metal surface rather than a paper surface), forming the logo.

Variants:

  • From the release of Target Terror in 2004, up to the release of Terminator Salvation in 2009, the top and bottom portions were colored light blue.
  • Starting with the release of Super Bikes 2 in 2010, the logo was reanimated and enhanced in 16:9 widescreen, with the color of the logo's top and bottom parts in its proper red color.
    • A still version of it, coupled with the words "LOADING...PLEASE WAIT" in Impact Italic on the bottom right, is used as a "loading" wallpaper on some recent games, and newer revisions of older games (which still use the original blue version in-game).[1][2][3]
  • On Guitar Hero Arcade, H2Overdrive, Dirty Drivin', Batman Arcade, the Wii version of Target Terror andthe Nintendo Switch version of Cruis'n Blast, the logo is still.
    • On H2Overdrive, the URL of the company's website is shown in red.
    • On Dirty Drivin', the URL of the company's website is shown in its normal color.
    • On the Wii version of Target Terror, the logo is resized in a larger size.
      • This is also used as a BIOS splash screen on some units of its output, such as a unit of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift arcade game.[4]
    • On the Nintendo Switch version of Cruis'n Blast, the logo is shown on the bottom-left corner during the game's splash screen and loading screen.
      • A similar variant is also used as a Ubuntu loading screen, where the logo is situated on the top-left, and has 5 loading dots. Once all data is finished loading, a 30-second countdown is shown before the game in question is fully started. This is used on more recent games, and has been spotted on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game (2016), as well as Cruis'n Blast (2017).[5][6]
  • On Winter X Games SnoCross, Super Alpine Racer and X Games Snowboarder, the logo starts out in an icy background (with snow covered on the top and the bottom of the screen). Then, the middle of the ice was cracked from left to right, forming the logo.
  • On Halo: Fireteam Raven, the logo starts out in a grid-like space background, in which it traces the logo from dot to dot until it's being formed.
  • On Nicktoons Nitro, the logo starts out with a black-colored car falling down to the ground in a white-colored background. After that, a circular platform and four robotic arms appear from the ground, as they customize the car by adding a spoiler, changing the front bumper, repainting the car's color to red, and adding an oversized car engine. Then, the car is destroyed into pieces by a hydraulic press, in which the camera moves to the car's wreckage and fades into the logo.
  • On Minecraft Dungeons Arcade, the logo is formed by cubes.

  • The blue version of the logo can be seen on Target Terror, Target Terror Gold, The Fast and the Furious, The Fast and the Furious: Super Bikes, The Fast and the Furious: Drift, and Terminator Salvation.
  • The still version can be seen on Guitar Hero Arcade, H2Overdrive, Dirty Drivin', Batman Arcade, Minecraft Dungeons Arcade, as well as the Wii version of Target Terror and the Nintendo Switch version of Cruis'n Blast.
  • The widescreen version of the logo can be found on most of their games since the release of Super Bikes 2.
  • The snow variant can be seen on Winter X Games SnoCross, Super Alpine Racer and X Games Snowboarder.
