Background

Tele Elefante was an Italian television network. Tele Elefante was founded in January 1979 by the brothers Leo and Guelfo Marcucci, active in the pharmaceutical sector of blood products and as repeaters of the foreign channels TV Koper-Capodistria, Radiotelevisione Svizzera Italiana and Tele Monte Carlo through the company S.I.T. (Società Impianti Televisivi), which had its operational base in Castelvecchio Pascoli, a hamlet of Barga, in the province of Lucca. The circuit originated from the previous television experience of TVS Telexpress, which would later become the leader of the network, spread over almost the entire national territory by a series of local broadcasters, some owned by S.I.T., others only affiliated. Among those owned, in the early years of the syndication's life, were, in addition to TVS, Telexpress of Lucca (later renamed Tele Ciocco), Telexpress 2 of Bologna for Emilia-Romagna, Telenord Milan for Lombardy, Tele Urbe and Tele Navona of Rome, Tele San Marco of Rovigo for the Triveneto, Teledue of Turin, Tele Radio Express of Genoa and Telesud of Naples. The director of Tele Elefante was the Tuscan Paolo Tambini, a well-known face on the national television scene. The schedule of the early eighties was of a good level and one of the flagship programs was the news program Echomondo.

1st ID (1981-1983)

Visuals: On a black background, a white cartoon elephant from the front view zooms in with a blue video feed back swirl occurring. The elephant soon zooms out.

Visuals: On a starfield, the elephant from before is shown having a white word "ELEFANTE" under it. The screen soon slides to the upper-right corner.

Audio: A crescendoing brass fanfare with an announcer saying "Elefante".
