Background

UKTV Bright Ideas (UK Bright Ideas until March 2004) was launched on January 15, 2003 as part of the UKTV network. It broadcast a variety of programmes often originally aired on UKTV Style, UKTV Food and UKTV Gardens, and were thus mainly cookery, DIY and gardening. On October 14, 2007, the channel ceased broadcasting and was replaced on Freeview by Dave.

ID (January 15, 2003-October 14, 2007)

Visuals: Any ident depends on the program that is about to air ends with the UK Bright Ideas logo ("BrightIdeas" with the usual "UK" prefix and four red lines arranged to the "s" in a half-circle form) appearing on the bottom, after the lightbulbs being turned on.

  • Gardening: There is a garden with several lightbulbs in flower pots. All of the lightbulbs turn on as three shots of the sequence are shown. Then, the logo appears.
  • Cooking: A close-up shot of a pitcher is first shown as the camera pans down through it before it cuts to a part of the pitcher on a red table, while the camera starts out being out-of-focus before it gains focus. As the camera zooms out from the cupboard, the four pitchers with lightbulbs inside it are revealed on a red table as the lightbulbs turn on, causing the logo to appear below.
  • Home: An unidentified object is seen with a narrow black triangle object beside it on a white table in a yellow room, before the scene cuts to a further shot of it, reveals three lightbulbs on a pile of logs. The lightbulbs turn on, causing the logo to appear as the camera slowly zooms out to reveal everything is on a square hole with a sofa is seen on the bottom-left corner of the scene.

Variant: From March 8, 2004, the logo was positioned to the center-left and was given the "uktv" prefix with "BRIGHT IDEAS" non-bolded below.

Technique: Live-action.

Audio: All of the idents are usually accompanied with an announcer.

  • Gardening: A calming piano and synth tune.
  • Cooking: A catchy jazz tune.
  • Home: A catchy tune.
