Background

Astro News was launched in 2002, carrying programming from Al Jazeera, BBC World, CCTV-9, Eurosportnews, the Australia Network, and DW-TV. It also aired Berita Astro, a news program owned by Astro after their co-operation with Bloomberg Television had dissolved.

The channel ceased operations in March 1, 2009, and has been replaced with Astro Awani.

ID (September 29, 2003-March 1, 2009)

Visuals: Against a black background, a bunch of lights flash far from the camera as there are some out-of-focus circles floating around them. Multiple turquoise and fuchsia beams then shoots towards the camera, and the camera flies by them as it tilts several times until the beams are in an X-axis. Two rectangles fade in and rotate to form a bigger rectangle (with the top part being navy and the bottom part being teal). The channel's name, stacked, fades in on the rectangle, which obtains two interior curves.

Variant: There is a post-commercials breakbumper variant where the logo formation is against footage of the camera passing by a group of beams towards the left.

Technique: CGI produced by Sizzle Video, an Australian motion graphics and media production company.

Audio: There are a few electronic notes, and a woosh as the beams shoot towards the camera. Then, a five-note orchestral tune is heard, followed by a rendition of Astro's five-note jingle from the time. This is also used for Berita Astro's theme.

Audio Variant: Just three orchestral notes, followed by a few electronic notes, based on the ident.
