Background

Bop TV was a Bophuthatswana television station, owned by the Bophuthatswana Broadcasting Corporation. Launched on December 31, 1983, the channel was initially part of the black homeland of Bophuthatswana, before finding its foothold by means of signal overspill, thus becoming an alternative of the South African Broadcasting Corporation. Following the end of apartheid, it was integrated into SABC, before shutting down on July 31, 2003.

Visuals: A blue biconvex rectangle with a circle-shaped hole rotates while zooming out as a graphic of the cheetah's face zooms into the circle over a gold background. After a few seconds, two red narrow lines come in at both sides, followed by the blue "B" and "P", making these two letters having a red narrow line printed on the bottom of "B" and above of "P". The result now shows "BOP". "TV" in red then comes from the top of the screen and zooms out before zooming back in as it moves below "BOP", before zooming out slightly. Red lines then appear on both sides, enclosing "TV".

Trivia: The cheetah in the logo is based off the national flag of Bophuthatswana.

Technique: Cel animation.

Audio: A majestic triumphant fanfare.

2nd ID (1992-July 31, 2003)

Visuals: The ident starts with six sequences of multicolored stars (pink, purple, blue, green and yellow) flying with footages of programmes. After these sequences, the logo, consisting of "BOP" (with a cheetah on the "O") in a 3D blue serif font, with "Television" in a red cursive font and a tilted filmstrip between the words, zooms in while trailing.

Technique: CGI with live-action footages.

Audio: A majestic tune played with trumpets and drums with sparkling sounds at the beginning, before segueing into a majestic trumpet fanfare, followed by a female announcer saying "You're tuned to the station with the best programs around, Bop TV."
