Background

The Caribbean Communications Network Television 6 (CCN TV6) is a Trinidadian free-to-air television network. It operates an analog NTSC television system, broadcasting on channels 6 and 18 in the island of Trinidad and channel 19 in Tobago. Its studios are located at 35-37 Independence Square, Port of Spain.

CCN TV6 began broadcasting on 31 August 1991, with viewing hours from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily. Prior to that date, audience choices were limited as the Government owned Trinidad & Tobago Television was the only choice. TV6 became the first independently operated television station in the English-speaking Caribbean, broadcasting to over 80% of Trinidad and Tobago’s population. Once TV6 was launched, the television monopoly was broken with the opening of the market.

TV6 has been the home of several veteran broadcasters in Trinidad and Tobago over the years, including Francesca Hawkins and Dominic Kalipersad.

1st ID (1991-Late 1990s)

Visuals: On a blue gradient background, a segmented red/yellow gradient number "6" slides in from below while spinning segment-by-segment, facing the left side as the camera zooms out from it. A blue word "TV" in a jumbled format and a hand-written font zooms out, as well as a red word "CCN" below.

Variants:

  • An extended version exists, starting off with a black background with a blue globe and a black landmass leaving blue light rays and spinning, as the camera zooms in to the Carribean islands. The footage fades to a silver film reel zooming out, as various live-action shots fade in in each part of the film reel. They soon fly away, and a part of the film reel zooms in, as the footage fades to the camera zooming out from the logo.
    • A short variant also exists, starting off with a part of the film reel zooming in.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: An announcer is heard throughout the identification.

Audio Variants:

  • For an extended version, an upbeat tune made out of bells and synth was heard.
    • For a short variant, an uplifting steelpan tune starting with a chime glissando, accompanied by the announcer saying "This is CCN TV6".

2nd ID (2000s-2007)

Visuals: On a black background, the camera zooms out from a twisting blue canvas, and various wavy orange lines slide across the screen. The letters of the white text "YOU'RE VIEWING" zoom out and connect while spinning rapidly, as the text fades out. A modified version of the logo is shown using the animation from before, with the text zooming out at the same time.

Variant: For a 16th Anniversary variant, the background is black with various white flakes moving, as the rows of the text "Celebrating", "16 Years", "Of Broadcasting" and "Excellence" fade and zoom in one by one. The logo animates, and the text from before fades and stretches in below.

Technique: Computer animation and CGI by Mario Rampersad.

Audio: A majestic orchestral fanfare with an announcer (Stephen Doobal) saying "You're viewing CCN TV6.".
