Background

The Asahi Broadcasting Corporation entered television on March 1, 1959, with the purchase of independent station OTV (Osaka Television). On December of that year, the station started carrying TBS programs and two years later, became a charter station of their Japan News Network (JNN). In 1975, ABC switched to ANN and began carrying NET programs. In 2018, ABC restructured as a holding company and because of this, the ABC television license was taken over by Asahi Television Broadcasting Corporation and its callsign was renamed.
