Background
Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk, abbreviated as MDR, is a German public broadcaster, headquartered in Leipzig and serving the German states of Thuringia, Saxony, and Saxony-Anhalt. It was formed in 1991 after the German reunification, becoming a member of the ARD.
