Background

Mainichi Broadcasting System, Inc. (MBS TV, callsign JOOY-DTV) is a Japanese television station serving as an affiliate of the TBS Television-run Japan News Network for the Kansai region. Based in Osaka, the station signed on March 1, 1959 and began broadcasting NET programs, before becoming a founding station of NET's All-Nippon News Network in 1970. In 1975, rival station ABC parted ways with TBS/JNN due to shareholder issues at The Asahi Shinbum. Because of this MBS switched to TBS/JNN programs while ABC switched to NET/ANN programs with the change occurring on April 1st of that year. In 2021, MBS spun-off its radio division as a separate wholly-owned subsidiary, known as MBS Radio. Because of this, the TV callsign was changed from JOOR-DTV to JOOY-DTV.

• Startup: There is a shot of a sun rising as the camera zooms to it. After that, the 1966 MBS wordmark appears in white as it zooms in with the text "第４チャンネル" at the bottom. The camera later fades to a shot of their transmission tower before fading to MBS' headquarters in Suita.

• Closedown: After a shot of MBS' studios in Suita, the camera later fades to another shot of their headquarters at that time before fading to the entire building from the outside, during nighttime. The 1966 MBS wordmark with the text "第４チャンネル" later appears before fading to black.

• Startup: There is a shot of a sunrise in Osaka. As the camera zooms into the sun, the then-new channel 4 symbol of the station can be seen as it zooms back. The channel 4 symbol then zooms out to later reveal the 1966 MBS wordmark with the channel 4 symbol at the bottom. The camera later fades into their transmission tower before later fading to a shot of MBS' headquarters at that time in Suita.

• Closedown: After a shot of their headquarters at that time in Suita during sunset and a shot of their studios at that time, the 1966 MBS wordmark appears as the camera fades to the exterior of MBS' headquarters from another angle, before fading to black.

• Startup: There is a shot of Chayamachi, where MBS is currently situated on a foggy day. The camera later fades to another zoomed shot of their headquarters before zooming closer to the top of the building, where the 1966 MBS logo is displayed. Then, the camera fades into some shots from the inside, such as the master control floor, some of their studios and the outside of the building. The building then displays footage from their shows such as an episode of Manga Nippon Mukashi Banashi and an edition Adorable Land before fading to another shot of the building with footage from most of their shows at that time. After that, the camera fades into a shot of MBS' studio entrance, another shot of their building and their transmitter dish. After that, the camera pans up to the building until it reaches the top. The words "JOOR-TV", the then-newly introduced 1990 MBS wordmark and its accompanying channel 4 symbol later appear from the bottom right.

• Closedown: There is a shot of MBS' headquarters in Chayamachi as the sun sets. After fading from multiple angles of the building, the camera fades to the interior of one of their studios before fading into another shot of their building (during nighttime) and later into the station's master control room. Then, the camera fades into another shot of their buildings with footage of a highway superimposed over it followed by another shot of the master control room as well as some shots of the exterior of the building during nighttime. After that, the camera fades into atop of the MBS building when a moon later rises and the words "JOOR-TV", the 1990 MBS wordmark and its accompanying channel 4 symbol appear from the bottom right.

Variant: Around 1998, footage from Manga Nippon Mukashi Banashi and Adorable Land were removed after the latter ended and were replaced with more live footage.

• Startup: There is a shot of one of MBS' master control room as it fades to some shots of it from the inside. The camera later fades to a shot of people walking from the outside of a temple before later fading into a live shot of it followed by shots of deers playing in the grass, a shot of people walking across the streets of Osaka and a shot of one of MBS' master control rooms before fading into a shot of some swans and flowers. After that, MBS' headquarters in Chayamachi appears with the 1990 MBS wordmark in white appearing alongside the words "JOOR-TV" (analog) or "JOOR-DTV" (digital) at the bottom.

• Closedown: There is a shot of some forests in Osaka as the sun sets. Then, the camera fades to one of MBS' master control rooms followed by a satellite dish, some other forest shots, the moon and Osaka during nighttime. After that, the camera fades into another shot of one of their master control rooms before fading into a shot of their headquarters with the 1990 MBS wordmark appearing in white alongside the words "JOOR-TV" (analog) or "JOOR-DTV" (digital) at the bottom.

Variant: When MBS shuttered their analog signal on July 24, 2011 due to the digital television transition, the shots were replaced with footage from the station's past startup sequences before fading to the shot of their headquarters from their startup.

• Closedown: Same as the opening ident, but done in reverse.

Variant: From April 1, 2021 onwards, the callsign was changed to JOOY-DTV due to a restructuring caused by the formation of MBS Radio.
