Background

In February 1989, Phoenix Entertainment Group was acquired by The Hearst Corporation, who owns distributor King Features Entertainment and it was renamed to King Phoenix Entertainment. The division was later renamed in 1990 to "Hearst Entertainment Productions" after parent King Features Entertainment was renamed to Hearst Entertainment.

Logo (May 14, 1989-May 22, 1990)

Visuals: On a black background, an orange light glows at the bottom-left of screen. At the top of the glow, a white-orange streak swoops up and curves around clockwise forming a giant cursive "P". Below it, the company name appears with an orange gradient crown to the left of it.

Variant: A prototype version of the logo exists, where the orange tip stays on when the text and the crown appear.

Technique: Cel animation.

Audio: Synthesized beeps with a whoosh when the "P" forms and ending with a synthesized fade out. Composed by Jerry Goldsmith.

Audio Variant: Sometimes, the end title theme plays over, or the logo is silent.

Availability:

  • The prototype version is only seen on the TV movie Out on the Edge.
  • The standard version made its debut on Blind Witness.
  • It is also seen on the 1990 TV movies Challenger and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
  • This logo is usually followed by either the King Features Entertainment or the Hearst Entertainment logos.
