Background

Matchbox Pictures is an Australian film and television production company that was founded in 2008 by Tony Ayres, Penny Chapman, Helen Bowden, Michael McMahon and Helen Packhurst. The company produces award-winning shows and movies like Nowhere Boys and the Australian series The Real Housewives of Melbourne which is an Australian version of the most popular franchise. In 2011 American-based NBCUniversal International Studios (now Universal International Studios) acquired a majority stake in the Australian company marking it's first investment to the studio and they added it to it's international portfolio and they fully acquired the remaining stake to the producer, making it full ownership in the company in 2014.

(2008-)

Logo: On a black background we see the CGI words Matchbox appears with the letters in a scripted font with "A" and "B" connected together which looks like a vertical line. Then a red CGI match drops below hitting the floor then it flips and inside it has the word "PICTURES" in white until it stops clanging.

Variants:

  • Sometimes the logo is still.
  • An in-credit version which has the logo in red or white with word "PICTURES" in either white or black.
  • A short version exists.
  • Sometimes it shares it with other logos.
  • For unscripted shows like The Real Housewives of Melbourne the same animation plays but with the word "ENTERTAINMENT" appears inside the match replaces "PICTURES".
  • One variation was used on The Turning (the 2013 version not the 2020 version) has the word "PRODUCTIONS" instead of "PICTURES" and it's still.
  • On Ali's Wedding the animation is different with the match dropping slowly.

FX/SFX: The match dropping from the screen.

Music/Sounds: The sound of the slashing with some banging sounds and shining effects or the ending theme of the show.

Availability: Seen on their television shows and movies that the company produced such as Nowhere Boys, Glitch, Mustang FC and Fires. The "ENTERTAINMENT" version was seen on their unscripted shows that they produced such as Formal Wars, The Real Housewives of Melbourne, The Real Housewives of Sydney and Making It Australia. It also appeared on US shows that Universal Television and Universal Content Productions produced like Camp, Young Rock, La Brea and Joe vs. Carole.
