Background

Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) (English: Radio Television of Malaysia) is the national public broadcaster of Malaysia. Established on April 1, 1946 as Radio Malaya, it is the first and the oldest broadcaster in the country. Currently, it operates 6 television channels (including TV1 and TV2) and 34 radio stations nationwide.

1st Logo (December 28, 1978)

Logo: Superimposed over live-action footage, we the the RTM logo with the inner border being teal and the outer border changing color.

Technique: 2D animation.

Music/Sounds: A horn fanfare.

Availability: Extinct. This only appeared when color TV broadcasting in Malaysia launched.

2nd Logo (1978?-1987)

Logo: On a blue background, we see the RTM logo from the time (an eyelid-like symbol with the outside being yellow and orange, the sclera being teal, and the pupil being blue), with PERSEMBAHAN above it.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the program.

Availability: Appeared on programmes of the time, such as Anugerah Seri Angkasa.

3rd Logo (December 27, 1987-1993?)


Logo: Against the space background as seen in the RTM1 ident, an orange flash appears. The RTM logo from the time (a globe symbol within a silver square and a blue banner with rtm on it horizontally covering part of it) zoom in. The channel's slogan, "Teman Setia Anda", then writes in underneath the logo, followed by an orange line under the text.

Technique: CGI animation. The space background is taken from Cascom, an American motion graphics company.

Music/Sounds: A bombastic fanfare with a group of people singing "RTM... Teman Setia Anda! (RTM... Your Loyal Friend!)"

Availability: Extinct.

  • This was shown accompanying the RTM1 ID as a flagship ident.
  • It has also been said that this logo appeared before the beginning of any newscast of the company's channels, particularly Dunia Jam 10 (The World at 10) and Berita Perdana (Prime News).

4th Logo (1987?-July 31, 2004)

Logo: Appearing at the end of the credits of the program, the RTM logo appears, usually below the penerbit and the name of the publisher. The copyright information may or may not appear at the end of the bottom.

Varaint: Some shows have "untuk" above the RTM logo.

Technique: 2D animation of the logo either entering the screen via the credits scrolling, zooming in, fading in, or none.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the show.

Availability: Appeared at the end of original programs that aired on the company's channels, such as Debu-Debu Di Jalanan.
